It would add historical flavor to the game and be reasonable if each side could get new reports from the other, for example when one side or the other calls a draft, issues bonds, whatever.

I played a PBEM where the USA used their political option to influence the british and i was notified. :)
I'd love to have removed all log-historical messages having no tie with the game i'm playing or...else...perhaps written in some other color, to differentiate from the real game messages on important events. After all the Charleston Mercury is basically all text and hundreds of messages could be built by the community (i.e. capture of a city, defeat/victory in an important battle, etc) all responding to the events of the game in course. ;)
