Division Icons

Wed Jul 08, 2009 7:47 pm

I have mentioned this in the distant past. Since version 1.14 is nearing completion, I thought I'd bring it up as a possibility for a next patch.

When on the field, you can spot an Army by its Star Icon, an Corps by its Diamond Icon ... alas, the smallest buildable unit in this game, the Division, has ... nothing. OK, in the unit panel it has a stripe, but on the map, as you look at it, there is nothing to differentiate a Division from a unorganized stack.

I would love it, and hereby formally plead for, a simple icon of some sort placed on any Division in the field to designate it as such at a glance.

Possible?

Mmm... the problem i see is that a division is not a stack type (like armies and corps) but a kind of unit that you can have in any kind of stacks (normal, corps, armies...)
So a division, even if alone in a stack it's not a stack. Its a unit alone inside a normal stack.
Does it make sense?? :D
Cheers!

Hmm for FOW purposes I would NOT advise this.

To determine if an icon is a division, use some reconnaisance. For ideas, check out SkyWestNM excellent Intellitips thread.

If it is your own division, well, you should know where you own divisions are located.

Did armies count divisions when reconnoitering during the Civil War or did they count regiments, brigades, and corps (once they started to be used).

It would be a cool function to have, but I'm trying to recall when generals scouted who was in front of them by divisions. Anybody know?
Oh my God, lay me down!
