Just wondering, because Staten Island was a notorious Tory stronghold. In 1776 the British fleet anchored in Raritan Bay and their troops landed on Staten Island where they remained for months while awaiting further reinforcements. Only afterwards did they cross the bay and land on Long Island to fight Washington.
Missing Staten Island denies the British a friendly landing place where they can refit and resupply - instead they must disembark from ships directly into battle.
