Very confused: Victory Points & Control

Sun Mar 19, 2006 10:27 pm

I am very confused about two features of the game:

(1) How victory points are awarded? How is it determined what you get for combat? How is it determined what you get for regions and structures?

(2) I don't really understand how control works. You can to a region and there is no enemy, then the region raises your flag. However, the ledger does not award you control, but instead shows a red icon with crossed guns? Sometimes, you get control immediately of an objective and other times you have your stacked parked there for many turns and you cannot get control.

Thanks.

Okay, I think I got #2 worked out.

Only armies with regular troops can capture or hold a strategic town in Revolutionary Scenarios if you do not have the population's loyalty. You can spot regular regiments generally by looking at the sprites in the Army Panel. All cavalry are regular. Regular foot units are drawn such that they generally appear at parade rest. Irregular units are either leaning on their weapons or cradling them. The mouse rollover in the Army Panel also tells you.

This one I not sure of, but if you hold many objectives and strategic towns, it does seem to heavily influence your victory points. I kind of like the fact that you can't just do the math, makes it more realistic.

You do need "Regulars". And regulars are NOT Indians OR Militia. Unless you have 51% military control of the area. You get military control by and aggressive stance in the region. This represents gaining ground. Not sure if this is automatic if there is no enemy.

thats pretty sum up the rules yes. Strategic and objective cities give VP. Killing enemy give VP (each unit has an attached custom VP value, kill GW for a big boost :king: )

To control a location for VP purpose, you should either have a regular infantry (NATO infantry symbol, and check of the detail about a company, you have his type regular, irregular etc.) or 51% + loyalty.

I would be nice if the final GAME OVER pop-up box gave you more details on scoring. Like:

Points from strategic regions
Points from combat

Regions added/lost to/from control

Regular companies lost
Irregular companies lost
Leaders lost
Ships lost
Supplies lost
Artillery lost

Enemy units captured

---

Additionally, it might be nice if a text copy of that was saved somewhere so that you could save game results and compare different playings. (For this purpose, one might also want the game version, mod dir, and options too.)

Thanks.

Leave us some time for the AI and some other secret things before. But a more complete end screen would be a cool thing indeed.
