Control and Structures

Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:46 am

Trying to learn ...

When I move into a region, do I want to enter the structure or not? (If there is no need to do so for recreation and shelter, etc., that is.)

I was under the impression that I would want to occupy the structure to gain defensive benefits and to have a firm hold of the region. But then if my opponent enters the same region, I end up besieged and with no influence on the landscape.

Conversely, if I leave the structure alone, and my opponent moves in and occupies it - now he is besieged, of course, but he is also firmly entrenched in my region.

Is having control of a region (for victory purposes) synonymous with control of the structure or not? Or can I hold the region without holding the structure?

My apologies for asking questions to which the answer must seem obvious to more experienced players. I also read the rules (several times) but I am really not sure I have understood these things correctly. :hat:

Yes, you can control a region without controlling the structure inside it (in BoA you can fairly rely on common sense to understand hopw works the strategical engine).

If you enter a region with an empty structure, you will automaticaly take it (except if you force is solely made of irregulars).

I don't know what is the situation, but you can just leave a single unit in the structure, it will prevent it to be taken without assault.

Hope it helps

Thank you, kind sir. So, if a city is a strategic objective, do I have to occupy the structure, or the region, to be credited with holding it?

Depends on loyalty. If the area is loyal to you (more than 50%) you don't need to occupy it. If the area is loyal to your opponent you need to keep a unti of regulars in the area. Inside the town or outside, doesn't matter.
