My first game - how am I doing?

Hi guys, just playing my first BoA game and I'd like to know how I'm going as it is hard to tell if you're winning or losing this game. Here is my situation:

October 1777 (turn 31 with 74 left ... playing the 1775 Campaign)

I'm American, and the AI is on +1 detection bonus, extra processing time, all behaviours on, normal aggressiveness and difficulty settings.

I'm 790 points and the AI is 737.

So I'm thinking (rightly or wrongly ... I'm not sure, hence the post) that I've weathered the storm. I'm rekoning that it is just hit and run holding my own on points and wait for the French to tip the balance.

Is that right, or is there a big bunch of British or Germans about to turn up and punch me a new hole?
