Partisans & other American irregulars

Mon Dec 25, 2006 7:55 pm

Hi all, I'd like some advice on using partisans & other irregulars as the US in the 1775 revolution campaign.

I'd usually use partisans in other games to go behind enemy lines and cut supply lines, but there are no front lines and no supply lines here. I've been thinking of using them in two ways, but not sure of the effectiveness of these strategies:

1. Use them to inflitrate "rear" areas and pick off lightly defended towns. Not sure about this though because I can't really see a couple of regiments of partisans or rangers being effective in laying seige - they'll just get whacked.

2. Using them to ambush on coming British stacks. Again , how effective will two or three partisan regiments be in ambushing the British "Death Star" stacks that tends to roam the board.

Currently I'm keeping the irregulars groups with regular forces ... but since this is a game of asymmetric warfare, this doesn't seem an optimal use of their abilities (as they just get caught up in the great game of whack-a-mole :bonk: )

Thanks for any help.

Use them to ambush up to medium enemy stacks, and only in wild/hilly/swampy regions, so that regulars get disadvantaged. You should be able to retreat rather easily without too much losses. Or seek lone supply wagons or regular regiments on their way to a town.
