Amazing George Washington! He is so fast!

Sat Jun 24, 2006 1:24 pm

1755 campaign:
G. Washington and his brave men were marching through the woods of North Ridge and Ohio Forks. Their destination was Fort Duquesne. The evil Frenchman had spoiled the earth there long enough, it was time to wipe them away! And on they march. Bold and strong but also always virtuous and with faith in God. Suddently they were attacked. The french! The brave english infantryman line up in their battle formation, awaiting the enemy. But the coward scum didn't fight with any honour. They hide and attack from behind, withdraw and attack again. Finally the battle ended in a draw. Many soldiers were wounded, the attack of Fort Duquesne couldn't be continiued. So Washington decided to withdraw to Fort Cumberland to reinforce his army. He was wounded, a french cannonball directly hit his left eye. He staggered, felt all his stength disappear and the world turned black.
He woke up in a hospital. A nurse was removing the bandages from his head. He felt strong again - strong and healthy. "Where am I ?" he asked. "You are in Manhatten, Sir" she answered "You were a whole day unconscious, but now your wounds are healed.". "God rescued you" she added "He moved you from Fort Duquesne to New York in one day AND healed you compleately"

I ordered a move from Fort Duquesne to Fort Cumberland. One turn later, Washingtion appeared in New York and I got the message "George Washington is revovering from injuries in Manhatten" According to the message log, this took 1 day and 1 hour. How can this be? :cwboy:

It's get even funnier when your glorious leader bounces from location to the next and each has a successive battle! :)

Is this actually possible? Poor George Washington relocate to New York, away from the hell of the battlefield to get some rest and have a nice time with some booze and a nice wench, just to find the city under siege. The french cannonball still in his left eye he can hardly control his head while stabbing and slashing the enemy...
Will he jump to another city after this? Or is New York his favorite place to go? :bonk:

So these relocations are scripted events which fire to prevent important leader from dieing?

Sorry, I don't know how the mechanics work behind the scenes. Although it does seem that, for the most part, the engine does try to prevent leaders from being killed off even though battles are lost. After that, it needs I guess to send them to safe location. Of course, I suppose it makes that determination in real time as opposed to after the entire turn processing is complete. So, it is quite possible that the engine catapults the leader into another disasterous battle. The physics of wormhole travel can be abitrary and cruel at times. :)

tsss tsss :)

yes its a gameplay mechanism, to prevent the player (or worse the AI) from loosing many leaders in a single battle. They are redeployed in any controled city (strategic city first) in the whole grand region they are in.

Certainly to be refined by searching first the nearest towns, I agree.

Seems reasonable. After George gets wounded, some of his man take a few horses, strap the bleeding (and whining) commander on one them and ride to the nearest english town. They take care to choose a way through terrain which is controlled by english forces. If they succeed to reach the town in 5 days, good old George will live, if not: R.I.P.
If they have to move through hostile territory they have to hide, so they travel significantly slower and there is the risk to be found by the enemy... :dada:
