Any direction for the future?

G'day all,

First all let me congratulate you on your fine game. It's really something out of the ordinary. I particulalry like the gameplay, and the graphics are a nice change.

I was wondering if you plan to look at any other conflicts with the game? I would think the game would be interesting for some of the smaller European conflicts. Just checking what plans you may have for future development.

On a similar note, can we mod parts of the game, such as the map, units and scenarios?

A game is planned yes, but we can't disclose anything for the moment. On the other hand we will at last be able to produce a modding document, so you will be pleased to know that much can be modded.

I'm glad to hear about the modding document and the new game in the works.

Yes Markshot, you will find me posting here, at COTA, MMG's Take Command forums, TW (mostly about games with better AI's or gameplay), and very rarely on WITP. I also post occasionally on other wargame related forums. I usually stick to using Dunhill_BKK as it easier to remember my sign-ins and passwords. It also builds some credibility, in that I hope most of my posts are of a sensible nature and mostly positive to the game and or community.

Great work with COTA BTW. It's currently competing with BoA and TC2M for my wargaming time. I'll have to hook up with the Panther folks some time, as I live in Canberra as well.

Do you have a specific project in mind? Some discussions are around for a reenactement of the south america wars eg.

Well, I was thinking that some of the Eastern European conflicts in Russia/Ukraine/Scandanavia might be interesting with this engine.

Unless you are looking at colonial activities in South America by others such as Spain and are just going to expand your map to include the Carribean and Central America (probably a good idea to work with what you've got).

Yes, but the naval aspect may be too great for the engine? Can we have different naval vessels?

I think its an interesting conflict that is not often covered in wargames.

The engine on which BOA is based is mostly developped on the military level, so I don't think this is a problem (you can have as many unit types as you want for example, and the battle module is really detailed when it comes to computing parameters). For now what is lacking is a more elaborate production system (coming for the next game) and some other things like a diplomacy module and alliance system, etc.

As time passes the game engine will do much more :)

Hi Robin,

I really hadn't gone into the depth about why I liked the graphics, as you've done a number of things that are worth a mention.

I particulalry like the sprites and unit portraits. The map itself is worthy of including in the boxed version, if you don't already (I purchased online from far down under).

Some people don't realise that it's the aesthetics of the game that can matter just as much. Often people refer to eye candy in games, but I'd class what you've done as eye-truffles, for the more refined tastes (Maybe the boss can arrange to get you some nice Tasmanian truffles as a bonus for your good work eh?).

It's nice to see something that looks more like a well done board game combined with a computer AI.

Local truffle growers set for bumper season

CHEFS should keep their eyes open for Australian-grown truffles this year, with local growers expecting a bumper season.

Reports of unprecedented early sightings of truffles in both New South Wales and Tasmania this week has given Australian truffle growers confidence that their 2005 yield will considerably exceed productivity from recent years.

Truffle farmers Tim Terry of Askrigg in Tasmania and Greg Good of Millthorpe in NSW, both stumbled across their first truffles of the season this week.

I think I saw a review on The Wargamer website, and some other posts, possibly over at MMG and an Out of 8 blog about it?

It's quite a game.

I'd like to merge this game and TC2M, but I'm a dreamer. I think such a game will be available in the next year or so, I hope. Either MMG is going to put out a great strategic level or someone is going to come out of the blue with a complete package (Les Grognards/Histwar?).

heres something for the wishlist:

for the desktop miniture gamers who would like to game the larger battles:
the ability to export the units involved in a battle, as an order of battle with units name and strengths etc

the ability to input the battle results, so the results of a table top game can be fed back into the game, and the campaign continues


other periods for the BoA engine:
anything in the late 17th and 18th centuries ! :niark:
