Thanks for treating me like a human.

Wed Mar 15, 2006 2:07 am

I'd like to take this time to thank you guys for treating me like a customer, a person, a gamer.. Not a crook..

I have several PC's I use depending on where I am, including my laptop. It is a huge inconvience for me to carry around a CD just to play a game. By having your game downloadable, and not having any copy protection in it that I can see, you've made my life easier. (assuming I am not breaking your license doing this)

I would like to point you to an article by Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock. GalCiv2 is the #1 selling PC game right now, and has NO copy protection. Star-Force copy protection recently went after Stardock to discredit them because Stardock didn't use their copy protection.

Anyway, my point is, one of the main reasons I purchased your game was because I would have freedom with it and not be treated like a CROOK. I plan to support ALL of your future methods as a result of this.

Thank you!

Yes, thanks for publishing your game without some form of invasive malware to frustrate pirates, but more so, paying customers.

If you had used Starforce, it would not have inconvenienced me; I simply would have not bought it. However, I am glad that wasn't the case.

We are following closely the affair between Brad Wardell and the goof made by one of Starforce administrator. A pity really...

As for the scheme that GC2 use, its a good one. As Frogboy said (Brad Wardell on his forum), its better to provide additional content for legit customers, compared to punish them by physical protections schemes that bother them more than pirates.

About the protection we have, and the copy restriction policy: Its like Gal Civ 2:

you are allowed to play BoA on several computers, provided that at the same time only one is running BoA.

If you are playing a MP game with one of your friend, at the same physical location, then its also tolerated that you use only one licence, as we quite understand that what you want here is just to play a good game with a buddy.
If you have doubt over the legality of an action, just ask. For example if you want to play a LAN with another friend, then your friend has to buy BoA.

On the other hand, your serial is your, and you must not put them in places where it can be copied or retrieved by others. For the record, we have already spotted BoA on some P2P networks, the 1.0 version, added by some #### individuals. This is completely illegal , but as for now no serial are available, so the game is not playable. (and we have the name of each user, as BoA is not sold in stores).

If it happens that a legit serial is seen on P2P, the serial and the user to whom it belongs will be baned and prevented from patching further the game.

Keep your serial for you. Any serial seen on P2P will be blacklisted.

Funny thing is I am splitting my time evenly between BoA and GalCiv2. Hmmm... Guess great minds (and great games) think alike. :king:

I find that serveral players of computer games that I know will buy games they feel are good games, but might use an illegal copy of a game like a demo. It's like, hey, try this game, I've got it burned on this CD. This is not necessarily bad, but if they then play the game for sometime, and then say, "ahh, it was good, but I'm not buying it because I'm playing something else now." That would be really wrong.

I think there has to be more education on the viablity of smaller companies in a world were "getting over" is a standard concept. People have to understand they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Most people like that would not end up buying the game anyways even if there was no option of pirating.

I just want to add my thanks for your position on this matter as well. I too use 2 computers and there are many games I buy that I cannot use on but one :tournepas , which really frustrates me no end. I play your game now on witchever machine I have available and will support your company in the future. I dont mind copy protection (as there are just some bad people out there) but why punish gamers who buy the games legally :fleb:

I am back again to say thanks for this simply and friendly serial # policy.

I have just blown half a day as the result of installing a game demo which unannounced also installed something called SecuRom. This led me to have to research it and run various utilities to determine if it poses a security or stability risk. It most likely doesn't, but, at this point, I am yet 100% sure.

In any case, it was a very unproductive use for my time.
