Retreat cancels movement

Sat Apr 14, 2007 6:53 pm

A unit that is forced to retreat from a battle loses any movement orders it was given, and sits stationary for the rest of the turn. This can be a problem.

Is it possible for units to retain their movement orders, and try to carry them out after retreating from a battle?

Would that be realistic?

A retreat is not usually planned, and it changes the situation. A halt would be prudent, not to mention a retreat should take some time and effort that would tire the retreating force.

Though a battle may last one day, the effects last a few days or more for Rest and Regrouping.

I'm not quite sure how that would work out. The one event I can think of, at 5 in the morning off the top of my head, is Grant's Overland Campaign in the spring of 1864, when he would continue advancing even after being dealt a bloody blow by Lee. But he had superior numbers to keep the momentum. How often do generals have that?
