Bombardment Broken?

Thu Sep 14, 2006 7:25 pm

Bombardment of a besiged port no longer seems to work. I have range 5 ships in aggressive posture set to bombard but nothing happens. Their ammo remains full. I have half noticed this over the past month and decided to test it. Not seen a bombardment work for a while - since last patch (1.09c)?

Cheers, Chris

Same observation here. In my FIW campaign (1.09c), I have range 5 ships in aggresive posture, supporting troops landing or besieging an enemy fort. I click the bombard button, the little bombard "chit" appears over my fleet -- but after that, as far as I can tell, nothing happens. No change in the ammo level of the fleet and no apparent damage to the fort or its units. How exactly is bombardment supposed to work?

there is indeed a problem, with an overzealous test. I will upload a quick fix very soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Any ETA on the hot fix? My ships have their guns loaded and primed - just waiting on the word to fire. ;)

it is ready since several days but some betas reports that bombardment is still broken whereas it works on my side ** scratching head **

Perhaps this can be caused because I have only sent the executable and not a whole patch, but its strange. We will make more tests today anyway. Sorry for the delay.

Here is the fix, I will post a all-inclusive patch within some days for all users:

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/BoA109d-quickfix.zip

This is only BOA.exe, that should replace the main executable by overwriting it. You need 1.09c installed before doing that.

a) fix bombardment bug
b) coastal artillery are eligible for fort building
c) Passive irregulars (eg indians etc.) don't pillage anymore.
d) Battles on frozen rivers don't have a wind gauge indicator

I get a critical error with the hotfix as follows: Playing as France in any of the FIW campaigns (I tried them all), I get a critical error whenever I try to load any leader in Quebec onto a ship. I've only seen it in Quebec and only with leaders. I can load non-leader units in Quebec just fine.

It happens with any ship unit in Quebec. I moved the Montreal flotilla to Quebec and vice versa - and I can load leaders onto the Quebec flotilla in Montreal, but not leaders onto the Montreal flotilla in Quebec.

It also happens with any leader, but only in Quebec. I can move a leader from Quebec to another location and load him just fine, even on the Quebec flotilla if it's there. But if I move a leader from somewhere else to Quebec, they can't then load on any ship there.

So the problem definitely seems to be in the Quebec location, not in the units themselves.

It's definitely unique to the hotfix, because I reinstalled 1.09c and the problem disappeared. Downloaded the hotfix again and reinstalled it, and the probem reappeared.

So hotfix, leaders, Quebec - that's the problem.

ok I will check that this evening (instead of trying the SE5 demo ;) ). It has to do with the code on how units move, I cleaned it a bit... well too much it seems.

Hi again,

Can you try this one:
http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/BoA109e-quickfix.zip

It fixes the problem you report on Quebec. Tell me if you experience new problems around loading/unloading units, this is a tricky part.

I just happen to be in the middle of a game too, playing the F&I Campagin as the French. So, I will try it out as well.

Tried the latest hotfix tonight and can confirm that the Quebec problem is fixed. No other glitches that I can see. Excellent job!

Hi Pocus,

New to the forum, though I had the game for a couple of months now. Lov it.

I've tried to apply this bombardment patch, but it won't install. Once I extract, it asks for serial number. I insert, but only ask again. I never had any problem before with the updates. Is there another way to fix.

Hello,

This is a quickfix, meaning you have to sweat a bit to install it ;)

The archive (ZIP) can only work on 1.09d. It contains the main executable, BOA.exe

You have to find the previous one, generally c:\program files\birth of america\boa.exe

put the old one aside (keep it in case of...) and replace it with the one of the archive. It should works.

yes, 1.09d has been removed.

1.09e can apply on any 1.09, but not on 1.08. You have first to get to 1.09 with the full patch in this case.
