for me, when units and map show blank, I just use the 'e' key to select the next unit, and this shows the map.

Re: Unit types strategy?

With all AJE scenarios keep history in mind; that is, what did Vespasian do? The only thing better than history are the introduction to the scenario and other game hint you might get for actions taken. Vespasian was methodical in taking cities, meanwhile building for his bid to become emperor. Victo...

I found out that if Kickstarters and Backers go to Avalon Digital under the games tab, the process is laid out pretty clearly how to obtain the game.

Re: Unit types strategy?

It is a lot of questions. Let me point you in the right direction rather than attempting a meaningful, detailed answer as the manual and game feedback will be much more helpful to you. Review combat in the manual page 40 until after siege combat. You will find many of your questions are directly ans...

Re: Unit types strategy?

Each army does need a balance of units, legions with auxiliary and cavalry, in order to maximize battle results. It is fine to use cavalry as scouts, but I usually use them as either a rapid moving force or a delaying force when not needed in armies. To me, auxiliary units do not do too much on thei...

Ah, well now I understand. You are just going to have to bite the bullet and use a less than stellar army commander. What a huge success you have had.

Re: CSA 3 Star Potential

Kind of a question, not a comment, could you not hold the line better with a great corps commander in command range of one of your army generals better than with an independent army?

I mean limits on number of commercial agreements and state visit cards. While seemingly these feel unlimited, there is a limit on how many you can do within a period of time.

Re: CSA 3 Star Potential

The two Johnstons and Beauregard really are decent.
While some 4-1-1, this is not really bad if leading good corps commanders.

Also, consider this, six armies may not be optimal. It may be that four is the optimal number.

Re: How to play 1850 if Austria's neighbor

The game discourages European regional acquisitions. Adjacency is a must along with an historical claims, like France and Nice.
This is not a game of European hegemony.

Re: CSA 3 Star Potential

Somewhere, but I cannot find it now, is a graphic of all leaders and their values when promoted. Maybe somebody else has a handle on this. It might even be an appendix to one version of the rules. History is really as good a guide as any. Are the generals' names one you know? Were they corps or army...

Yes, the map can be touchy, so allow the scroll or mini-map to map big moves.

Re: I'm bored playing this AI.

Most players play one turn a day, so time zone does not matter too much. It does take some time to resolve a game, but not forever. Each day brings the joy (or terror) of making a new move.

Meaneye - Welcome to the forum.

Yes, in this game the complex graphic can provide a crash for different reasons, and you have found a repeatable method to cause such. The good news is that avoiding this crash is also easy.

Re: Elbow to Elbow

My understanding is that frontage is more a question of unit type, light, regular and irregular more than density; so while frontage is a game concept, it is not the same as the newer engines. Thus, no way to read except to infer from terrain chart about difficulty of movement.

Start with a small scenario, like Finland, and just take your time. The game is complex, but basic play is very straightforward.

I do not think there is a 'magic' British and French naval strategy. You have put forth some good theories. I usually go with the Fleet in Being with a strong blockade. But there are so many more options.

Re: How to do well against Sertorius

Play against Sertorius is a long game as he is so strong. Think of this a game of posts. That is, take cities where you can. Defend. Take more cities. Limit his range. When he no longer can draw upon a larger region, then move in.
This is a tough game as Rome.

I too came to Pride of Nations from Victoria 2 but also loved Pax Britannica: The Colonial Era 1880 to the Great War. It is such a great board game. I still play it and prefer it as its production is much simplified. But Pride of Nations in my view is the master of all games of this era. It is compl...

Unit variations in the game reflect some unique condition, not generic conditions. What you provide might allow someone who is a student of ...

pbem is not really cumbersome as long as you know how to zip a file. It takes about a minute, but chat time if you and your opponent like to chat about the game. Many play by saying only, "New turn" or "New Files." I love to chat so I do add a bit more and get to know new friends...

If you want to avoid pbem altogether, try playing both sides. It works; I've done it for years. How do you go about doing that exactly? How does that work? I am picking up on Straight Arrow's comment for two reasons, he and I do have fun in pbem play, which is nice for many players, but also like S...

Yes, what you said above:

"by allocating memory in to running game - you mean option menu in the game - switch off winter screen and raising memory usage"

Besides that, exit every so often.
