Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

It does sound like you are getting it. You are doing exactly what you should be doing: playing a situation, examining, changing the conditions and variable and replaying. Bye the way, terrain is a major factor as it not only provides a defense benefit at times, but it also canalizes movement restric...

Re: Height of Ambition

If this is your first journey 'under the hood' be sure to back up any file you change somewhere outside the game before tinkering. Almost all early game modding is done in the events files. You should find an event file with the relevant command codes. These will look familiar to anyone familiar wit...

Re: Diplomacy Question and Coordinating Attack

Hi CTCitadel and welcome to the forum. While warscore is important to being able to take a new region, loyalty is also a factor. Post an infantry unit in the region you desire to annex. Are you able to annex other regions, just not Venetia? If so, you will see a menu of eligible regions. If not, try...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

I am not sure this forum has a moderator in the sense you mean. It does have several engaged commentators who visit daily to reply to new posts. Many of the unanswered posts are requests for pbem games, these are usually replied to privately not in the forum. Several posts are simple complaints or a...

Re: I get confused with game version

Yes, if the game comes from Steam, then they will have the last 'official' version. To have the latest version, you need to have your game independent of Steam. Of course this version does not matter too much. You will miss a few bug fixes, but unless you play pbem, it will be fine to be in the stea...

Re: Height of Ambition

Not exactly sure what you desire. You wish for Moltke not to be fired? If Germany holds in the West and attacks Eastward? I would say in this instance, he would have resigned for not following his plan.
To keep Moltke, just take Paris on time.

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

So a leader who is not active (ie your deactivated) is just fine in defensive battles. That is, he retains all of his combat values.
Yes, it is easy to forget that random rolls matter. This is not chess, it is a probability game.

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

I am not sure what you mean by deactivated, but generally a blue/orange stance is good for defense. Do remember that every battle is a probability event. What I recommend for understanding battle outcomes better is to take any close battle, like you seem to be using for you example: Make your defens...

It has been awhile since I have play this title. I do remember being able to play beyond the games end. What happens when you get to the end of the scenario.
If I remember correctly, you will not need to mod, just dismiss the game end tally and make you move and continue on.

Hi xavierm and welcome to the forum. You should have had a manual downloaded when you installed your game. Look in the game folder. You will find a folder called "Manuals." In that folder you will find two manuals. The AARs in this forum host many excellent examples of play. The threads of...

Citizen X nails it, but a bit more detail might be: In the early game when soldiers to put into uniform are not always there, I take a pause in raising money. I do taxes last, but rotate through each option to raise money whenever the option to raise money is available. Because raising taxes does co...

Re: Confederate Generals in Arkansas & Missouri

You are right with regard to the color or flavor, but one of the key design features of the game is that all forces have the 35% command penalty in 1861 to reflect the rank amateur militia units. So my suggestion is to rename the infantry and cavalry units to reflect the names of the commanders you ...

Re: Confederate Generals in Arkansas & Missouri

All of the CSA generals who held a command are in the game. Many come into the game in other theaters as the did during the war. Just as a few who arrive in Arkansas spent their war careers east of the Mississippi. If you are referencing the opening of the April 1861 scenario, this is quite historic...

Re: Are you still playing?

I actually do love Hood. He had the right instincts and was willing to put it all on the line, not just in the late war, but in his early battles. Hood and Rosecrans are the two leaders who get the worst treatment in history and in games. So when I compare my play to JB Hood I mean I will take the m...

Still playing. Many are. Still follow my John Bell Hood instincts and fighting where I should not when I should not and providing a path to victory for my opponents. Still open to new pbem play if you are looking.

Re: CSA Points to Know (open to comments)

Your use of Bragg in New Orleans is a very decent use of him. There are so many excellent CSA commanders that his Arrogance and Dispirited qualities are a major drag; but he does have a 5 initiative and a 3 attack, which can be useful. I do play with a strong eye upon history and use of historical c...

Re: Prussian setup anomalies

Hi watchvn94 and welcome to the forum. With all AGEOD games, the set up is historical without conforming to the game's normal demands. You have probably found that if you remove the units directly subordinate to the corps commander, they cannot be reattached. So it is an anomaly tied mostly to recre...

Re: McClellan

Interesting post. The taking of Manassas is a rare enough event I had not noticed the impact upon McClellan. Re: CSA Points to Know (open to comments)

Best is really a question of your over all strategic plan and how you deploy for combat. As well, some players like to use some historical limitations keeping Jackson in the East and maybe allowing Longstreet one journey West. Those you have outline do make sense. I would say you have over looked JE...

With all AJE scenarios keep history in mind; that is, what did Vespasian do? The only thing better than history are the introduction to the scenario and other game hint you might get for actions taken. Vespasian was methodical in taking cities, meanwhile building for his bid to become emperor. Victo...

Re: Unit types strategy?

Each army does need a balance of units, legions with auxiliary and cavalry, in order to maximize battle results. It is fine to use cavalry as scouts, but I usually use them as either a rapid moving force or a delaying force when not needed in armies. To me, auxiliary units do not do too much on thei...
