I try and keep a constant 10 inf replacements, 2 elite , 2 cavalry, 1 each light art & med art. as the CSA, and anything else as i see i need it..( ie, if a headquarters takes a drubbing and falls to low strength, buy a replacement HQ chit that turn..) Its pretty rare that after a turn I find all my...

Interesting thread... I don't think 'specially as CSA, you can make multiple 'perfect' divisions, simply because you're limited by the leader abilities available, and the number of leaders with those abilities. In the example i was giving above, breckrinridge gives a 15% increase to cohesion recover...

As CSA I try to get a good commander a la Breckinridge ( with cohesion bonus ) as div ldr , with Sharpshooter, 12pnders etc, and an elite bde to give further bonus..then put that lil' beauty under someone like jackson ( well, theres no one else like jackson...so it usually turns out to be him)..with...

I'm as unsure as you as to what exactly the balance is..are prisoners partly or wholely drawn from the casualties figure at the bottom of the battle report? which also, as i understand, doesn't include any further losses' in pursuit '.. maybe as someone has said previously it's partially including s...

I can go one better ( or perhaps it should be 'worse')..in my last '63 against the AI I lost Lee and AP Hill in the same battle. I actually won that battle but needless to say i was distraught..I seem to recall losing someone else of importance a turn or two later..I was scared to even contemplate a...

Further to artillery in AOT , there guns in the two corps of hardee and polk, but they're all integral to the brigades not independent. I assume thats what you're meaning.
That affects what the artillery fires on in combat as i recall?

I'll have a look at AR and texas..there isn't much there at present and i was wondering how i was ever going to scrape together a significant force capable of achieving anything..the smart answer seems to be ..' don't try'. in fact i would guess ( I'm speaking from my workplace at presen...

1863 Observations

After a couple Of 1861 GC's against AI, ,I thought I'd try something a bit different ( I was hardly winning by xmas 1861 , but I was winning ) so, onto 1863 , CSA. If I'd realized what a challenge it was I'd have started an AAR , but it's a bit late now...at least i heeded the warnings of those who ...

Hi Newbie. Good to see people are still joining up..I've only been playing since about february..and, like you said, I stopped and started a few times while I gained a tenuous grasp of the basics. Then I decided, play on til the end...so I've had a couple of completed GC's.which illuminated things e...

As someone threaded a while ago..it's not too diificult to alter the Factions file in Game data. Even an 'L' plate PC operator like me can do it...there's a line in both the 1 confederate and 0 Union Folders thats called GHQInfo. afre a look to see how the programme named its armies,it wasn't hard t...

Army Names

there may be some out there, like me, who get a trifle peeved when the army of north virginia is battling around mobile ..so I was chuffed to see this "For a work-around on naming armies: + When you have 3-star General and ArmyHQ in region where you want to form new army, before forming army, save g...

like the OP, I'm way up on WS in jan '64. as CSA. Over 1,000 I think. I've increased the div number to 45..but that doesn't really eat up much in the way of WS. and the rapidly dwindling ammount of CS puts a bit of a cap on the action..railways are at 300..boats at 50, so there's room for growth the...

looks like it depends what side you play as to how efective you find the industrialization gambit. I've only played CSA so far..and coming from rural arkansas thru southern missouri to even get with a stones throw of st louis is a real mission. My first GC fell apart completely while i came to terms...

I agree with ol'choctaw...the difference a minimal investment in missouri/arkansas can make is quite big. if your supply wagons are elsewhere then it relieves enormous pressure to have more GS in the towns. You're not likely to have huge forces way out west, so , equally, you don't need massive ammo...

There has been a lot of discussion of the appropriate composition of a division. For me, I don't set up to pursue and destroy units. I prefer to have most of my calvary scouting for my forces, tearing up rails, hunting down enemy calvary. So I can't help you on your quest. I do usually form 2 calva...
