[AACW] - Looking For a Southern Player

I'm looking for a southern player. I'm reasonably new to PBEM but familiar with the game. I'd like to start as the North but would then be happy to follow up with a game as the South. Can do a couple of turns a day usually. Please PM me if interested

I think using the shift key forces your unit to follow the exact path you set. Hold down the shift key down and move your unit territory by territory and they should follow the path you set. This allows you to move a unit into a territory and then back into its starting territory in one turn for exa...

Capt Cliff, Letting the fort fall is not a bad solution either. Of course, if you fill the fort with militia and 6lbs (they will turn into inf reg and 12lbs while sitting in the fort) , and try down 1200 pts of firepower and some good generals with two divisions, you are doing alright. As for human ...

dig into the fort with a couple of divisions. No matter how big a force the attacker brings, you'll be able to fight at a numbers advantage (the defender can fight with 15 inf elements and 15 art elements while the attacker can only fit with 11 of each) and you should be dug in. Let the AI bring an ...

I'm curious, do you take the Richmond morale hit if you've moved your capitol? The penalty is pretty severe and would be difficult to bounce back from.

Certainly, Lincoln, the congress, and all of the rest of Washington's political players attempted to exert pressure on Meade, but they were notoriously unable to force the general to act. Witness Meade's pursuit of Lee after the battle. Lee even stood on the defensive on the 4th hoping (or maybe fea...

GraniteStater has the right of it. There is alot of ink spilled on Lee's decision to attack on day three of Gettysburg and a look at the battlefield can make you question Lee's decision. But Lee couldn't really disengage and move on the flanks of Meade as Longstreet councels. First, he had been conc...

Charles,

You are right about the historic Columbiad artillery, but in game, the artillery represents heavy, less mobile, artillery. Not the actual coastal artillery the Columbiads really were. The Columbiads act just like field artillery and fire on infantry.

I mostly meant that Grant had better stats. In fact, I never meant to malign Stonewall in any way. Stonewall was an outstanding commander in the war and is an outstanding commander in the game. He will undoubtly give you good service leading an Army. There are many good reasons to promote him to arm...

Ahhh Frontage, In the outstanding thread that Ethan posted (#10) take a look at the modifier section. In open terrain (clear/prairie/desert/wood) Your overall general (the one that is displayed in the combat results report as the general) can add a huge number of troops to your frontage through thei...

With three stars and High off/def skills, he does wonders for your forces with frontage in the right terrain. Plus, the rebels get fewer good three star generals and usually have to make a compromise out west unless they've had a general that has really advanced through experience. But, for me, losi...

Longshanks, Jackson's unmodified stats at 3 stars are pretty good but I believe he has the quickly angered characteristic. This means that he and his subordinate corps lose cps (four I think). Because of that, I never promote him to three stars. Something of a spoiler but you can see the list of gen...

Naval Strategy Ideas - How do you use your navy?

After running into some surprises making amphibious landings and dealing with supply, I started checking forum posts for advice. Reading the posts, I've discovered that many of the players posting on this board are more aggressive, especially as the South, than I. As the North, I tend to use my ocea...

I have read somewhere that the term hooker came from General Hooker but I don't know how you could know for sure. He did some good things leading the Army of the Potomac including emphasising corps, centralizing the cavalry command and paying his soldiers. He just didn't win that battle. In game, I'...

My original statement was intended to get a rise out of people (which it achieved). I believe however that the deeper thought behind it is valid: Due to the increase in firepower of rifles and guns, Clausewitz' concepts had - at least in part - become obsolete. I agree that many of his general thou...

Oh, and I'll have you know that according to the Japanese army at least, the bayonet charge didn't become obsolete until 1945 ;) Based on my limited reading of the Japanese Armies employment of the bayonet charge, they probably should have considered it obsolete after 1942 as their success with it ...

I'd be surprised if the game was identifying the guns inaccurately to represent a factor (AACW is pretty accurate). Are you sure it couldn't be something like 6lbs that convert aftere the battle? Undoubtly unlikely, but the only explanation I can think of without it being a bug.

Fingolfin, Using cav as responsive corps is an excellent idea that I have never considered. As the cav starts to convert to late war cav, they become more effective in combat (especially union) and they generally take less frontage than inf. The late war cav can also capture towns, so split them up ...

I don't know how the divisional cavalry affects pursuit, but a good use for a cavalry division is to change military control of territories to impede supplies. When the other side concentrates, use your cavalry to gain military control of the territories around that force and that force will have to...

To beseige fort Monroe and starve them out, you'll needed to cut off their naval supply. The easiest option is to blockade them with naval elements. I think if your beseiging force digs in to level 3, you can click the bombard naval vessels and interdict their naval supplies but I'm not entirely sur...

The Rebels love Pittsburgh. You've got two approaches: 1. Let them go to Pittsburgh, leave the garrison in place. When they capture Pittsburgh (and they almost certainly will), use some troops to regain military control of the path the rebels used to move to pittsburgh. This will deny them supplies....

Sherman's frontage coupled with the advantage a 6 offensive/defensive score gives is pretty unbeatable. If you have the troops to fill out his frontage and can pick the terrain, he's a monster. The South really have few generals that can match the top union generals. Cleburn and Longstreet are both ...
