Good News/Bad News

Woohoo! I decided to go for the download one last time, and it worked ! Unfortunately, it will not run on my laptop (just what I had expected). I'll have to try it on my desktop computer, it has a lot more computing oomph. Looks like the only Ageod game which runs on my laptop is dear old Montjoie!

Actually, I never hinted that Ageod might be the problem. Interestingly, I never have any problems downloading through my ISP...but I'll give one of those download managers a shot.

Downloading problem!

For 3 days now, I've been trying to download the WWI Demo and it always locks up! [Thurs - 23%, Fri - 38%, today - 48%] What's going on here?

In the demo, you have both the Tutorial (1776)(Brit only) & the same 1776 Southern campaign (Amer OR Brit), 2/1776-6/1776. Obviously, the Tutorial is considerably easier; the Amer AI in it is NOT too sharp. You also have a Northern campaign, 4/1775-4/1776 (part of the complete Rev War game).

Secondly would be England, only because I love "Midsomer Murders." :sherlock:

"Magua understands the English very well..." or words to that effect. Wes Studi should have won a Oscar for that performance, IMO!

..... 2. BoA 2 is neat, but as a purist, I like BoA 1 best. ..... BoA2's great advantage over BoA1 is that it will run . BoA1 would only run part of the time on my desktop (running XP) and not at all on my laptop (running Vista :wacko :) BoA2, OTOH, runs just fine on my laptop. Woohoo!

You might want to try some of the Kenneth Roberts novels, such as North by Northwest, Arundel, etc. Since these were originally published in the 20s & 30s, they sometimes can be a little difficult to find.

I can live with the 2.5 minute start-up time; the game itself runs just fine. BTW, the last time I fired up this game, it took only 1 min 50 sec to load! BTW #2, my desktop is running XP, not Vista.

Well...since my old desktop recently blew out, I upgraded to a new computer, with an Intel Pentium 4 running at 3 gigs + (sadly) still only 512Mb RAM -- so I decided to give the AACW Demo a try again, and whaddayaknow! It only takes 2.5 min to load & now it runs just fine ! I'm happy as a clam in hi...

Still no joy...

Thanks Rich, I finally found the [what blackbellamy called it] UAC & shut it off. I then rebooted & reinstalled the AACW demo onto my laptop. It's performance was still unacceptable (like running in quicksand) so I unstalled it again...I'm tired of this! FYI, here are the specs on my laptop: CPU: 1....

Just want to say AACW works perfectly on my Vista system: No crashes no weirdness no nothing. AACW and Vista :(

Well, here are my experiences so far... 1) I downloaded & installed the AACW Demo to my spiffy new laptop running Vista OS. The first time I tried to open AACW, it too a looong time to load, then would crash, completely locking up the computer (I had to unplug the laptop & then remove the battery to...

1755 campaign, the sequel

I decided to replay the 1755 campaign, again as the Redcoats. Right now I'm at January 1758. This is so different from the first time I played...Braddock got smashed at (where else?) Monogahela (infantry anihilated, but arty & supply escaped). Braddock only wounded, as was Washy and the Brit colonel...

Yes, strange ahistorical things sometimes happen with some of the leaders. Recently in the 1755 campaign, the AI had Pontiac leading French regulars in capturing Baltimore!! Of course Amherst's army threw them out as soon as they could get down there. Go figure... :indien:

1755 Campaign

Well, I just finished my first full campaign in the F&I War, as the British. Before this, I had only played some of the shorter scenarios. Needless to say, I made a whole lot of stoopid mistakes and still managed to win quite easily. Let's face it: the French really don't have much chance here, do t...
