Re: New Game?

With AGEOD, Slitherine never announce much in advance the subject ... Sorry -- I couldn't resist this one. Pocus might better have said that with ANYONE Matrix/Slitherine don't give much away in advance. Grigsby's War in the East II is in beta, for heaven's sake, and they still haven't "offici...

Re: Problems with a PBEM Game

Oh, for sure. I played War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition for a number of years with a variety of people back in the day. That game took so long to play through that children could be born and graduate from high school before finishing! There was a lot of life to experience in games like that.

Re: Problems with a PBEM Game

Well, "cumbersome" was the wrong word. But this is miles behind what other games use. You shouldn't have to manually transfer files anymore.

Re: Problems with a PBEM Game

Hmm . . . that's a possibility. Worth a try.

Here's hoping that Civil War III has a less cumbersome PBEM system!

Re: Problems with a PBEM Game

Thank you for the suggestion. It had not occurred to me that the problem might be because my friend and I are using incompatible file structures. But I do not think that's the issue For my part, I have no doubt that the game is being stored in \documents\My Games\etc. The custom name I give to the P...

Problems with a PBEM Game

I love this game, but I have to say that I seem to be a magnet for strange experiences with it. I posted in another thread that I have never seen a report of a successful Habeas Corpus decision -- still haven't, by the way -- and now I have another mysterious problem. I recently tried starting a PBE...

Re: Does Habeas Corpus EVER Work?

Well, all I can say is that I have never seen it succeed, even in provinces where troops are stationed. And I'm not talking from only a few examples, believe me. I examine every message every turn, and nothing. But clearly I'm overlooking something.

Re: Does Habeas Corpus EVER Work?

It's worked for me. Not all the time, but I've seen it work. What was the sign of it working? Increased Union Loyalty? Or a message in the log saying that it worked? I ask because it occurs to me that perhaps a sign of it working is the absence of a message that it was unsuccessful in a particular ...

Does Habeas Corpus EVER Work?

I tried posting this first over in the Matrix forum, but putting it up here is likely to get a better response, I think. Anyway, I've been playing CWII pretty intensively the past month, and I find much to like in it. One small annoyance though, is the seemingly utter futility of playing Habeas Corp...

Re: Civil War III

I apologize because I haven't read most of this but if there was a Civil War III I'd highly appreciate a better way to multiplayer than PBEM. This one, at least, appears likely. Pocus posted earlier in this thread that any new game would use the Matrix/Slitherine PBEM++ system. That's a good way to...

Usually Paradox releases beta patches to registered users in the Tech Support forum; is it a policy that you won't be following this convention of theirs, or has that just not happened because Paradox is busy in LA this week? This is only true with a game that is more than two or three patches beyo...

It's true that inflation currently is not working. It's a priority for the first patch. Your report about prospectors not being able to forage is a new one to me. It's worth keeping an eye on, although because they are classed as garden-variety military units and none of those need a specific "forag...

The prestige rewards depend crucially on how each side chooses to play the crisis. When France goes for a high stakes resolution and loses, S-P gets a lot of prestige.

Heavens, yes. If you manage to boot the French out of Tunisia by winning a crisis with them, as I have done once or twice, your prestige zooms up nicely.

There were some problems with the display when looking at a city with a large number of structures, as is the case with Torino.
How many display boxes do you see by default?
It might help to try changing the screen resolution in the game options. That's what solved the problem for me.

randomization is made only when the general appears in-game, not in advance. excellent. Thanks! :) About the random&hide abilities thing, this has been discussed and this lead to some problems. In AACW you get many historical events and this complicate things (as many generals appears by event) Yea...

Randomized generals

I have a basic question about how the game's engine works: I find that the first couple of turns in AACW are kind of routine, so I save a file at that point with my initial moves. What I want to know is whether generals are "re-randomized" each time I go back to that file. In other words, are genera...

How to keep the game running when on standby/hibernate

So here's an annoying little problem: When I have to quit playing AACW for more than a few minutes and want to put my computer in standby mode or hibernate it, there appears to be no way to keep the game in memory. Whenever I turn the computer back on and attempt to return to the game, it fails to r...

No., that wasn't it. When you buy a game directly from AGEod, you get an e-mail confirming the purchase with a little "download" button on it. It takes you to a page that I have p.m.'ed you because I wasn't entirely confident about security. On that page, there are two buttons, one to d-load the gam...

An update --

When I installed the game it did install a pdf manual as well; is that the same as the "player guide" which you can supposedly d-load directly from the site? If so, it might help to clarify this.

Or maybe I'm just unusually dense.

Gotta get the AACW manual!

Hey, Rafiki -- Ok, so I bought and d-loaded AACW from the AGEod store and everything installed fine, EXCEPT the player guide. When I try to d-load the pdf, it appears to hang up. Normally what you see in these cases is the entire document d-loading and then it takes a while before the Abode Reader o...
