Definitely take advantage of Levis' ability to train troops. When I say that I use him as a reserve, it's more of a "mobile reserve" to counter the greatest threat using his quick movement.

To paraphrase an answer I gave to a post along these lines a while back - "The French are inferior in terms of numbers, and the difference becomes greater as the war progresses, however they also have - for the most part - better leadership and more irregulars to call upon. Their best bet is to stri...

To be honest I've never read one of his books, but I know a large number of my friends are huge fans. It's a shame when things like this happen to someone who brings so much joy to so many people. My thoughts are with him and his family, and to all those who are fighting Alzheimer's.

I'll follow up what everyone else is saying. If you like NGG, you'll love AACW. Like you I'd been waiting for a good strategic ACW game, and this certainly fits the bill.

That's a hard question to answer, as each side has different pors and cons, so it really depends on your playing style. The French are inferior in terms of numbers, and the difference becomes greater as the war progresses, however they also have - for the most part - better leadership and more irreg...

For those of you interested in the time period and are in the Washington DC area, the Smithsonian is hosting an exhibit on the French and Indian War. It is running from December until July at the Ripley Center (International Gallery). The exhibit is called "Clash of Empires" and the press release sa...

Butler was not a good general, he was however, the best possible choice to occupy New Orleans. He was definitely hated, but he pacified that city very well. No matter the price placed on his head, once he took over the city, and issued Order # 28, the city definitely calmed down and was not really ...

I have read the monster three times. I was ready to go a fourth time when I saw that it can be found as an audio book...I got it and I was really impressed. The first volume is about 36 hours long. Luckily I can listen to my trusty Creative Zen Plus at work. Great stuff. I'll have to keep that in m...

1|1|2 seems fine by me. This way the Union player can be as frustrated as Lincoln when he fails to do anything, but at the same time he should have an excellent training bonus. McClellan, for all his faults, did make turn the rabble that skedaddled back from Bull Run into a real army that could stan...

I think her certainly deserves the militiaman trait, although engineer is stretching a little. I also say keep his stats at 4|3|3 for a division commander, but maybe a 3|3|3 as a corps commander - solid, but nothing too exciting. Comments?

Hooker is a very hard general to rate. As far as his performance goes, he was one of the better corps commanders, though he rarely got along with his superiors. As an army commander, his plan at Chancellorsville was brilliant. In the whole war, Chancellorsville was probably the best planned battle ...

Perhaps myth is too strong of a word, but it is a somewhat controversial subject. You are certainly correct that Heth does mention heading towards the town in search of shoes, and Heth may have been convinced that there were shoes there. However, there is some very interesting evidence from a variet...

Foote makes for excellent reading, and his style is entertaining for history buffs and non-history buffs alike. However, i do have some reservations about him, not to detract from his books or his legacy. For one he was a fiction writer, not a historian, and when he writes, it shows. On the plus sid...
