Re: Siege warfare

I wonder if you could add a high penalty for assaulting a fortification without a breach? Would it be as simple as changing a variable in the code? I actually don't know if there's already a malus for assaulting without a breach, but if there is, maybe that couple be doubled/tripled/whatever.

Re: What should I put inside GHQs?

Hi Drakken, I'm not sure if this is optimal or "correct," but I always use my GHQs are just another Army. I load them up with Corps, etc., and place them in the line next to other Armies. I find the March to the Sound of the Guns too useful; I like to have as many potential supports nearby...

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

A couple quick things to check: What stance was your army in? If it was blue or green, it would try to retreat soon after combat starts. Were you well-supplied? If your army had little supply/ammo, your army would be much more likely to retreat. Any idea what your cohesion was? Low cohesion can caus...

Re: how works replacement?

It depends on the settings. If you have "auto replacements" "on," the AI will automatically use some of your money/WS/manpower on buying replacements. If you have it "off," you'll need to go to the war production screen "F2, I think) in the little book thingy. Ther...

Re: Who's in charge here?!!!

Haha, damn frustrating, isn't it? I think having ships locked while filling out can be stopped if you don't set them to "green/green" while in port. At least, that's been my experience as best I can recall. Having no replacement chits would probably work, too, but I'm honestly not sure.

Re: Bogus Subs, Control of the Undersea Cable, & all That

Not sure if it's different for PBEM, but I haven't seen the Lusitania or US anger when I keep U-boats out of the Atlantic shipping box against the AI. I still see the US drift towards the Entente slowly. Having U-boats in the Mediterranean box doesn't seem to anger the US, either. Not sure about sur...

Re: Using the Union Navy

Thanks, guys! Appreciate the help!

2 follow-up questions:

1) So in general, it's better to siege forts than storm them?

2) If you park ships outside a harbor, but there are forts there, will your ships get whittled down and sunk after a few turns?

Thanks again!

Using the Union Navy

Hi all, I've got a couple newbie questions on using the Union Navy properly. 1) I know the blockade squadrons go in the blockade boxes (as a single stack with transports, yes?). Should anything else go in the blockade boxes? In general, is it advisable to build more blockade squadrons? 2) What shoul...

Re: Hindenburg

I think you'd have to unassign his GHQ, and then re-make all your armies. You might take some morale hits doing this. Instead, you can just re-name the GHQ. I think if you alt-right click the tab where the army name is, it'll bring up a text box where you can re-name it. This works for any unit.

Re: How To Appoint Generals?

Hi Crow!

Make sure you have enough money and EPs for the decision to fire. The new generals should appear in your capital city on the next turn. Every new year you should get a few new generals in your capital as well.

Hope this helps!

Welcome Pete! Concerning your second point, as Durk said you can adjust AI settings in the Options menu on the main page. Some things that might help are setting the AI difficulty higher, raising the AI's aggressiveness, and giving the AI activation bonuses. There are some War Plans the Central Powe...

Invading Serbia

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has any good ideas on invading Serbia as (primarily) Austria. I know it's not "good strategy," but I want to try the AH warplan with the focus on Serbia (Conrad?). My thoughts are keeping a holding, artillery-heavy force across from Belgrade, while I send a ...

Re: Tannenberg. Or, dude where's my army?

Hi Zardoz, Not sure if this is what you're asking, but for the "synchronize movement" command the units need to start in the same province. It should work with any units (divisions, corps, armies) so long as they begin the turn in the same province. TEAW is a little different from some oth...

Re: How to transport land units by sea?

Good advice, as always, from Epa. To move units from England to France, start the turn with the land units and the transports in the same city/harbor. Drag the land units' tabs onto the ships' tabs (like combining corps). There should be a naval unit with land units "inside" it. Move the s...

Re: How to transport land units by sea?

Hi Ed! You need to have enough transport capacity to move land units by ship. If you hover over a land unit, you'll see a "weight" value (something like "3" or "12"). If you hover over a stack of ships, you'll see a carrying capacity number (something like 0/20). The sh...

Conquering Africa as the CP

Hello all, I've become obsessed with trying to nab Africa as the Central Powers (against the computer; haven't ever done PBEM). I know it's a side-show and kind of silly, but I like it. I've found a few things that help: 1) If you are *not* at war with the UK for the first 2-3 turns (no Schlieffen P...

War Plan conflict?

This may be a silly question, but I had a thought the other day:

What happens if the CP picks the historical Schlieffen Plan, and the WE picks one of the plans where they invade Luxembourg or Luxembourg/Belgium? Which side do Luxembourg and Belgium end up on?

Re: Question about munition wagons

Thanks for the help, all...as always you guys are great!

Building munition plants closer to the front is worth trying. Do we know if the game models existing factories? City/dept size probably accounts for this, but does it pre-load munitions plants in major cities?

Question about munition wagons

I've been noticing my munition wagons often take awhile to fill up. I have excess shells, so I don't think it's a shortage. When the wagons are empty, I shuttle them back to a depot (usually a bigger city). They often have to sit for a few turns before filling all the way up. The problem seems worse...

Re: question on alignment starting values

Thanks, Epa! That's why I'm wondering if it's random, or at least semi-random. I think I've read AARs on the site that have France choosing an aggressive plan (through Luxembourg and/or Belgium), and the UK starts less aligned to the WE. Certainly the Schlieffen and Ruprecht plans cause the UK to be...

Thanks so much, Epa! This is all very helpful! I'll try cutting off the Russian escape route via the rail lines as you suggested. Thanks again; that really helped me clarify my thinking, and taught me how to approach strategy in this game.
