Although it sounds like a good idea to put low quality Generals into stacks, I think that only Generals that actually command a unit (ie a Division or Brigade) have their stats improved. I can't justify putting a 0-1-1 leader in command of a Division when there are 2-1-1 or 3-1-1 ( or better ) leade...

It sucks to get P Kearny as a 6-0-4. Non-randomized he's a decent General, but randomized, he's one those that varies wildly. As for 0-1-1 Generals, I end up with lots, but it's not a critical issue since as the Union as I always end up with enough good or great Generals that I can form the division...

Randomized Generals and CSA Performance

I usually play as Union using the 'highly randomized' generals setting. My question is this: Which side gets more benefit from this setting? It seems that this setting neuters the CSA and it becomes fairly passive. I've also noticed that poor generals benefit from this setting more than good general...

Modding a game in progress

Is there a way to mod a game that is in progress (ie. change specific units stats)? I don't want to change the basic files for every game, just specific units in my current game.

I think in both cases I assaulted the forts and took them the same turn. In both cases, the fort was destroyed, but the garrisons and guns spawned as per usual. I eventually built a stockade in both locations so that the units at least had a structure.

Display and other questions

I've been using the latest official patch (1.06) and have notices some things. First, there is now a black box located on the left side of the screen where the Army tabs are which display my current fps, resolution and other video information. Does anyone know how to turn that off? Second, is it jus...

Playing as the Union against Athena, I have found a simple strategy that turns the far West into a sinkhole for the CSA. In the far West I adopt what is essentially an aggressive defense strategy. As early as possible, I build/move some brigades to defend the settlements I want to keep, while at the...

Well it happened again. The game crashed during turn execution and when I loaded the backup nothing I did the previous turn was there. (no orders, no reorganization, no purchases, etc). I saved the game before I executed the turn, but still nothing.

I must say that this is extremely frustrating.

I have looked at the backup directory. The .hst file has a time stamp of 07:44 and the .ord files have a time stamp of 08:13. The .tag file also has a time stamp of 08:13. I know the turn did not execute for two reasons: 1 - None of the units moved, none of the units that were ordered are in the pro...

Crashes and Restores

So....I spend 45 minutes or so planning, buying, moving, organizing all my my units and the economy. Then, knowing the game has a tendency to crash, I save the game BEFORE executing the turn. I execute the turn and sure enough, it crashes in the middle of execution. After restarting the game and res...

Divisional Composition

I know this question has come up many times and there are probably no perfect answers, but what is generally considered to be a good or ideal composition for a Division that is intended for general field use (for example, not a cavalry or siege division)? Typically, my composition varies according t...

"- If you can get 2500 stacks to attack your entrenched 2000 stack, that's better than taking Island number 10. - If you can isolate 500 power divisions with your 2000 Grant stack, that's better than taking Island number 10. - If the path to Bowling Green is wide open because there's a 4,000 stack i...

Teleporting Stacks

Time for another question since this game is both confounding and confusing me. Take a look at the screen shot. You'll notice a CSA stack in Shenandoah VA, which just so happens to be the Army of the Shenandoah. Not really surprising so far. The catch is that particular stack, literally just one tur...

Island no 10, Fort Henry & Donelson

Does anyone have any advice on taking these objectives during 1862 as the Union? No matter how hard I push, I can't seem to get either before the end of summer. In my current game (early Aug), I have an Army under Grant, split into 2 Corps of slightly over 2000 CP each. Both Corps are artillery heav...

I usually play with at least moderately randomized generals and one thing that never changes are the general's special abilities. Here are some things that I'd like to see in the game: - Special abilities randomized as well so they are not always the same for every general every time. - Special abil...

Talk about a huge penalty. A general dropped from 5-3-3 rating to a 3-1-2 rating when Division command was enabled. Is that because he is only 1-star and should not be a Division commander? Does the same happen to 2-star generals?

The date is now Early Jan, '62, and I've just gotten the "62 Generals Pool" and the "'62 Division General" stacks. In the "62 Generals Pool" are Thomas L Crittenden and Benjamin M Prentiss, both 1-star generals. The stack itself has a tooltip that says all units inside it are always active. Prentiss...

Leadership System

Hey all, been playing off and on for quite a while, mostly as the Union. What I'm wondering is if anyone has figured out the leadership system in the game. To me, the system is excessively complicated and confusing. There doesn't seem to be anything logical or consistent about it. For example, there...
