Hey everyone. Had the game for about a week now and am loving it, but of course am having the typical family and work hiccups!

My newbie question :bonk: is about the stockades/forts. In the manual I pulled off of Matrix Games forums it talks of building forts etc. Is this an actual command or is it part of the automatic entrenching activity? If it is a command is an engineer needed?

Anyway, thanks a lot and I love the game!

Hi munited18, and welcome to the forums :)

There is a special command for building forts, available to stacks when the necessary prerequisites are OK (For details about what they are, take a look at http://www.ageod.net/aacwwiki/Fort#Building_a_fort). Entrenching is something else, and you don't need an engineer to build a fort (but you do need 4 artillery units and 2 supply wagon units)

Excellent! Thanks. Is there a terrain requirement or can you build them anywhere as long as you meet the arty and supply prereqs?

It doesn't matter what kind of artillery, you can use the cheapest you can find, the most expensive, or any variations thereof

I think you're mixing up forts and entrenchments.

A pre-built fort is level 1.
A player built fort is level 2.

I've never needed to build any, so I don't know if there is a difference in combat effects.

Entrenchments can go up to level 8 if there is artillery in the stack, level 4 if there is no artillery. At level 5, stacks in entrenchments get the option to bombard passing ships. Stacks in forts should automatically bombard.
