Forts & an old question revisited

Forts...I have always wondered if you set the Fort posture on Orange if it would automatically fire on any ships that pass (especially on rivers).
I tried that (no ships ever went by so I have no idea what would have happened) but when I checked it the next turn it was back to the Blue setting.
Any comments?
2. An old question revisited (again & again).
I have decided to play the CSA in a little different way.
I have decided that until a certain time I would form NO formal Corps but use only Ad-Hoc type of formations.
My question is this;
If I use 2 generals as Division Commanders along with 2 other Generals combined in the SAME stack then I would have enough Command points to have a basic 2 Division Corps (but without the Corps Commander's benifits).
Now what if....
I add a third General to that 'stack' and he is an Artillerist. Is this considered a stack so the 20% Art benifit counts?
And if this is true then an Engineer should give Entrenchment benifits and a Signal guy will give that stack an extra command point to cover everyone.
I know we all keep going over this particular item since we all open this game for the first time.
BUT...IF Supply Wagons count when NOT officially IN a stack (but just added to it) then why won't an Engineer ect.
PLEASE help me understand this as I am going to start trying harder settings ect and this is PIVItOL to my strategy.
Thanks as always
