AI Fixes???

I read an AAR from back in July 2007 where an AI complaint was noted that the "drum" icon showed for almost every battle, obviously hampering the AI. The person writing the AAR hoped and assumed that that would fixed in future patches. Well it hasn't been fixed as that "drum" icon is still showing up - we're up to patch 1.08a - what gives?
To also piggy back off of two other comments made about patches - I'd really like to be able to remove all unit icons just to get rid of the clutter and view the map in all of its splendid detail and a full screen strategic map is really needed.
