Artillery in a stack clarifacation

I have a simple 2 fold question about Artillery.

1. when in a division or a Corps do you incorporate Artillery into a stack (using the + sign) for best benifits or do you just leave them as tag along units attached to the Division, Corps, Ect.

Is there any benifit when the Division becomes part of the Corps to having the units as 'stand alone units in the Corps (so everyone gets to get the benifit from them) or leave them 'incorporated into a Division)?

2. A little more tricky question.

IF you have a General that is an Artilerist and has a Hefty bonus do you just add him to the stack as say a division aide de camp? The way I read it it says that IF he is just iN the stack the ART gets the bonus.

Does this continue in the CORPS? What I mean is, If this artillerist is in a division stack as just a hanger on does the WHOLE Corp get benifit of the bonus.

3. Which BTW brings me to a third (sigh) question.

If 4 units of art is all that the facing will allow, Is that considerd per Division, per Corps or is it just per stack (what ever that stack may be). In other words if I have a Corps with 4 Divisions can I use 16 units of ART effectively and will the artillerist give a Corps bomus to all of them?

WHEW!!! If all this makes sense to anyone (or just part of it) any info would be aprreciated!!!!

Thanks as usual!!!

1) in AACW you have a frontage limitation, if i am right that means only 4 artillery batteries per unit(division) are active at any given time in combat, so what i do is i add no more than 4 artillery batteries per division.
additionally you can have "reserve" or "corps" artillery, this is another 4 batteries per corps (not added to any division), those 3 batteries do fire against the strongest enemy unit, so they are quiet usefull.

2) as far as i know the atillerist bonus works for the general beeing in the stack, no matter what he commands or not commands, i usually give my artillerist generals a full division to command, but you can also have them lead a brigade only for example.

3) see 1 and 2 (basically you answered your own question with 3) allready :bonk: )

1. I usually put smaller guns inside the division and the best ones . If I read the rules right the corps level artillery can support all units whereas division artillery can only support

2.

Depends on a number of factors. I have made Huger a division commander in the hopes he will get promoted, and I won't have to promote anyone over him and pay the political cost since he has high seniority. OTOH one the other Confederate generals who has

Yes, it should since that bonus applies to the whole stack, whether he is the corps leader, aide-de-camp, division leader, or brigade leader.

And if you look at the battle reports it will tell you what bonuses you got, and artillerist is always there if there is an artillerist in the stack.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but here's another arty question:

I get the frontage idea: 4 battys per division, 4 more per corps reserve.

But can there be an army arty reserve? e.g. I've got the ANV concentrated at Manassas, two corps each with divisional & corps arty. I've also got four battys with Beauregard himself as a grand reserve - do they get to fire also?

(First post here btw - I'm really enjoying the game, despite having jumped in at the deep end: grand campaign, CSA, getting my hat handed to me)

Welcome!

And yes. Each separate Army/corps stack (tab on the bottom of the screen) can have it's own arty reserve.

Theoretically if they're in the same zone they will. There are a lot of variables that affect the probability that certain units actually fire though.
