Division Commander loses his command?

I have noticed that I will make a Division Commander 1 turn and the next turn he is no longer a Division leader (and the Division button is now greyed out).

Is it because he gets deactivated and can't move, or do you perhaps need to have a certain amount of Elements in the command.

I know there is a penalty if you leave him alone and don't give him troops but for him to all of a sudden be demoted and you CAN'T give give him a command agian (its greyed out) is frustrating.

Its not with just one gerneral OR just Division Commanders. I have had a made a Corps commander one turn and loaded him up and the next turn he is back to nothing.

Anybody have an idea? I am playing CSA)?

Thanks as usual!!!

When making a general into a division commander, you need to add at least one unit, otherwise the division creation will be cancelled during turn resolution.

You can give him a command in the future, but the same restrictions apply, i.e. he needs to be active when being turned into a division commander.

That a stack that is a corps no longer is so the next turn sounds a bit weird. Did you do anything to the army to which it belongs, e.g. disable/re-enable its army status?

The Div command loss I would more likely attribute to a lack of the necessary supplies that are required to form the Div.
These are spent after all other expenditures, so you may have overspent for replacements, reinforcements, transport, etc.

The rail repair process is another that is accounted for during turn resolution, so if you've spent too much (I do it almost every turn!) your planned repairs don't happen.

That would be my only complaint about the system: the fact that these resources are spent secretly (it's not clear how much is required for each instance), and spent after everything else.

It makes it a bit difficult to plan completely, there are always a few nagging leftovers from the previous turn.

If this is intentionally part of the game's design (IE: to represent the uncontrollable vagaries inherent in war) then fine, I accept that.
If not, then, as I said, the only thing I would change.

It is a great game, well worthy of the attention & awards it will surely recieve.

As to the Corps command issue, I've noticed that combining two corps often puts the more senior commander in charge of just one corps.

If you have the 'combine armies' setting on, then perhaps this is what is happening.
I don't think that there is any penalty or cost for assigning or removing corps designations, so it's just a nuisance.

The so called Division command loss is due to that fact that you failed to create a division. After you push the create division button you need to collect the units that you want in the division. You CTRL-left click the units that you want up to 18 elements (including the leader). You will notice that the button to the left of the create division button is a '+'. Hit that button and your division is created.

The tutorials explain this process very well.

I've actually gotten the message that one (or more) of my divisions weren't formed due to a lack of administration costs.

Does anyone know if the costs are based on the quantity of regiments originally included in the Div, or just a set rate per Div?

I would expect it is a set rate.

The costs are per division regardless of how big they are.

As kcole said...

If the "division HQ" (i.e. the general with division costs paid some months ago, but without troops) is traveling alone a far distance (so ending turn without troops added) loses the HQ, and turns into a single general, losing the precious money / war supplies.

You can only do this by redeploying, or traveling at least with a single militia

It occurs also when paying without enough money to build, but this is other question.
