In the post dated December 3, 2007 it states (from the wiki and the manual) that there is only one kind of HQ (and thats a ARMY HQ) and Divisions DON'T need one.

Now, I am not sure if that was before the new patch and NOW you DO need a divisional HQ before you can form a division, or I just heard wrong and you don't have to have a division HQ to form one.

Could someone give me the latest on this, as this is the ONLY part of the army command I am having problems with.

One last thing, IF you do need Div HQ how do you create it thats different from Army HQ? OR is a HQ a HQ and you can use it for either?

I hope someone understood what I was trying to get at. Thanks for any help you can give as I am ALMOST ready to try the (sigh) grand campaign.

Division HQs were phased out in 1.04 (I think it was). The only HQs remaining in the game are army HQs

To clarify:

Armies and corps are stacks, just with special properties.

Divisions are units, but a special kind that is able to contain other units.

Units can be added to stacks by dragging them onto the stack they are being added to, alternatively by dragging the unit or its tab onto the tab of stack it is to join.

Similarly, a unit can be taken out of a stack by dragging it out of the stack display.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "breaking down a complete army", but you can add as many divisions to the army stack without making any changes to that stack's status as an army.

OK, I'm not sure I follow you here.

It sounds like you are adding the leader to the brigade without having formed a division. This is possible, since you can "embed" leaders in any brigade (AFAIK).

To create the division, make sure that you click the "enable division command"-button first *before* you click the "plus"-button. Then you should be able to add more units, up to a total of 18 (including the leader)

Thank you very much!!!!just for clarifacation when i meant break an army down it seems that I have to take command AWAY from a general before I can make a 2 star a corps sometimes.In other words....I take command away from the general in the army of the Potomic.Now that i've done that the 'Corps' button will light up (which it wouldn't before) and I can name 2 stars to a Corp Command.Now I have to figure out how to get a division command and how to add units to the division (hence the original post) so I can add them to the Corps amd the Corps to the army!!It just seemed unwieldy and Frustrating.I will try it without all the hoopla and see if they form up...I hope so as It will make for a MUCH less tedious part of the game.Thanks agian, your always helpful!!

It sounds like you are dismissing an entire army, and then perhaps forming a corps from a different army in the same region? Usually you won't want to do this unless you plan on replacing the army leader, because there are VP and Morale penalties for dismissing army leaders, if you don't replace him with a more senior leader.

If the 2* general was in the 'Army' stack (the tab for the stack should have a star above it), he cannot command a corps because the stack he is in is already a corps (with a CP penalty). What you need to do is split him to his own stack, declare a corps and then add units. He must be the most senior leader in the stack.

Also, a 2* star cannot be a division leader AND corps leader at the same time.

Perhaps not normally. However, if you move a division which is commanded by a 2* into a corps commanded by a less senior 2*, you will get a 2* commanding both a corps and a division. There are disadvantages to this as the division in question misses out in some of bonuses.
