How do you pillage and fix pillaged areas?

I have played the tutorials, read every post, and played some of the campaigns. Its pretty frustrating at times but usually I stumble on the solution to problems.
However, I keep seeing the 'Pillage Area' Icon come on and can't figure out what to do (if anything) about it and how do I pillage thier regions?
I figured out how to tear up and fix RR's but this pillaging is beyond me.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome to the forums
If a stack is without supply, it needs to "live of the land". When it does that, there is a chance (don't know how large or which modifiers affect it) that the region it is in will become pillaged.
AFAIK, you can't explicitly pillage regions.

Not sure so much about ACW, but in BoA a region gets pillaged when irregular units (like Indians) move through it. Irregulars supply themselves by pillaging the countryside for food, drinks, and other things.

When they do this, sometimes they set fire to stuff. Hence the flames on the icon.

In addition, leaders with the 'Pillager' ability like Quantrill and Sherman will pillage territories that have low loyalty.

You have already found the two best sources for information about the game; these forums and the wiki. As for getting hooked? Well, you're one of us now

I believe the answer to the question about how the pillage affect goes away...(Which you may have already found on the Wiki site)....is during the "harvest season".
Which I believe are generally the late summer and fall turns?
