Hi all new to this game but love it so far. Am trying to load a division on transports in ST. Louis. Using Faragauts ships. He has several gunboats plus two transports. When I try to load my men into his fleet they just wind up in the stack of his ships as maybe second in command not on transports. This is by moving there tab over into his fleet tab.

I have also moved one of the transports out of his command and into the city. I then move there tab again into the transport tab but once again they dont load onto the transports but seem to be a seperate unit in there fleet. I have also moved them over the city till I get the saying load into fleet. i drop them and still they show as a seperate unit in the stack with the transport. And they are still not loaded on to the ships.

At least the info when you move over the transport shows no loading. How do I get them on these tranports. I need them to get to springfield as fast as possible. Please any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. generals Aseboths division icon always appears as in command of the transport in the little bar showing the stack composition never on board,

In the tutorial of loading troops on ships it showed two little yellow icons of ships near the city on the map. it was easy to mouse over these icons and load. but i dont see these represations in the game I am playing now. 1861 April starting time with the latest pa leure: tch installed.

If your units are on th same stack that the ships and you have enough capacity for them (look at the tooltipos) it's ok. They will move by river
They are not shown as loaded inside the ships. Just on the flleet stack, side by side.
Its OK.
Also... do you know you don't need transports for moving troops by river?? Just select the riverine movement icon on the left panel and the units will move by river to destination if its convenient. Just the same that on rail movement.

Loading them on a fleet is necessary only for sea movement and for added defense if you are moving through rivers controlled by the enemy (fleets, forts...). For this you have to put also combat ships on the same fleet.

Arsan, don't forget what pocus said. In case of amphibious landing, the stack, provided ironclads are present, FIGHTS in support of the landing units. That's basically why the land transports were built

Transport movement is also faster than riverine movement and you don't waste valuable riverine resources. Transports are also a great way to build depots deep in enemy territory and a lot less expensive than using Wagons.

If I am doing an amphibious assault I much prefer to use transports protected by riverboats and ironclads for bombarding the hell out of the enemy. My main river transport/ironclad/river boat fleet commanded by Foote has enough capacity to carry all buy my largest army in Washington, over 600 in strength with plenty of ironclads and river boats for good measure.

As others said, if they are in the stack they are in the transports. It just simplifies the loading and unloading process since all you have to do is ctrl-click all the units you want to move out of the transports once in a river region you want to disembark from.

If you control the port of the location you are going to (say St. Louis) and instead of moving to the region and disembarking you just move the whole fleet onto the city and they will disembark automatically upon arrival.

Oh, another benefit it seems like is that movement by transport loses less cohesion than by riverine movement.

Didn't know about the difference on speed and cohesion.

Thanx all who answered me. That really helps for my move to retake Jefferson Mo. Will put them in Footes command as he has a lot of back up help with gunboats and transports.
