How is it accomplished by April '62? How many units does it take? I'm having a terrible time with amphibious landings...thought I would try and take the fort near Hatteras (sp?...can't recall the name) with Farragut, the Marine brigade from Annapolis and another infantry brigade and failed. Set the fleet to bombard, landed the troops, assaulted...didn't work...would like to try and take New Orleans by April in next try...any advice on naval landing operations appreciated.
As for Hatteras...

...here's a link for that "battle"...750 reb losses to 3 union lost in a two day battle...not sure I could recreate that in this game...

Attack with more men. I rarely have an amphibious attack with less than 8K men. Plus I am not so sure the Marines give you an advantage. I think their attribute gives a bonus for attacking across rivers!?!

I believe Marines reduce the cost of moving across rivers but not a bonus to attacking across a river.

so if marines only get bonuses when moving across rivers and not attacking across them or during amphibious assaults along the coast, what's their advantage?

Speed. When operating in enemy territory, speed reduces supply usage and cohesion loss. These add up to a minor combat bonus. Also if they are part of a division, the whole division gets their speed bonus.

I am curious if the marine movement bonus applies to the whole stack if separately included in a corps rather than attached to a specific division within the corps? In BOA, it would. I don't know if that is true in ACW.
Unfortunately, I have a lot of questions about special abilities and how they interact and if they are additive, etc.

My mistake. This is a group level attribute, it applies to the whole stack (corps).

see the abilities file in the modding forum, the abilities' level of appliance is indicated.
