Is there any way to make these useful? I havent played that long so are they there in case British sail out of their northern locations? Building a gunboat in chicago has little use or am I missing something?

Just place them where you need them on the rivers, they are able to sail south to join the rest of your fleet.

The only ship that is unable to move through the canals to the Mississippi & connected rivers is the USS Michigan, which is stuck up there.

So if you have ships and boats up there, make sure you dont mix them. That is, dont put them in one fleet, and then try to move that fleet. That wont work (I know from experience....)

I meant to ask about that one ... what's it good for? Unless the Canadians declare war on us of course ...

Not much :)

(It didn't do that much historically, either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Michigan_(1843) ;) )
