Older Versions of the patch

Hi all

I am having some problems at present. Fire up the game and it stalls on load. Bar goes a 1/4 way across, AGE 2.0 is above the bar and then nothing. Just hangs. I have to Task manager it closed.

This is from my log:

08:48:05 (Reporting) User: Chris Computer: FAMILY-LAPTOP
08:48:05 (Reporting) Loading general settings

and that is it.

I have performed a totally clean install, different directories and hard disks etc.

I ran the game with the original 1.0 exe, no patches and it played fine. Load the 10d patch and it freezes after a few turns.

All drivers are latest, Vista home, 32 bit, 2 gig memory. I have played on the old patches with no problem but have deleted them. Anyone point the way to a the previous patches ?

TIA

Hi LuckyJim1001,

sorry for the trouble. One reason that the game stops from loading might be that the serial number is not correctly saved in the file General.opt. In this case the program AGESettings.exe should be started automatically, but Vistsa might prevent that (asking you for the permission to start an unknown software).

This file can be found in the directory "...\ACW\Settings\"
Near the end it should contain a line "Serial = " where your serial number should be written. Please check that or simply send us the file
General.opt to support@ageod.com with a reference to this thread. :cwboy:

In another occasion you made it run with the patch? What kind of error message you got?

Thanks Norbet

I load up the game with the 10d patch and manage to play a few turns then it does the thing above. I am just going to do some testing as it might be me not giving the game enough time to load ( I just saw the thread about 3.5 minutes to load.)

But I see no disc activity when it 'hangs' on the load screen.

I am just about to reinstall so I'll send you the info you requested, proves I'm not using a pirated version as well. :-)

Chris

Just gone into that file and it says this;-

colEventBlock = 145|145|145|255
colPermaBlock = 125|125|125|255

7. Serial number (unencrypted, keep this file for you only)

Just remembered that I had to crash out of the install as the AGESettings had hung. Off to reinstall.

Okay I have 2 instances of the game installed. One I will patch to 10d the other I am going to leave at 1.0

Is there a link to the old patches somewhere ?

Thanks.

I'm afraid not. Our aim is to fix the problems that gamers encounter, rather than forcing them to use older (and buggier!) patches.

Fair enough.

I've sent the file to support as requested.

That's a very good point, Gray, but I can't help but feel that calling it "enhanced updates" sounds very PR'ish, however accurate that term is ;)

I am having the same exact problem, I can get to the game to work if I do fresh install. then patch but if I play the game for any length of time then restart my machine it breaks again, The progress bar just stops halfway.

By the way I am using XP home and Agesettings doesn't pop on my machine, Strangely if go to shutdown my computer while the installer and Agesettings are running Instead of my computer shutting down Agesettings pops up and I can finish the install.

Hi R.E.Jenks,

so there are two possibilities: First one is that the AGESettings program is waiting somewhere in the background, hidden by another window or minimized. Please check if you can see it in the taskbar.

If this is not the case, then the fact that AGESettings pops up once you shut down your computer, indicates that another software you are running prevents AGESettings from starting. You can try to disable temporarily all programs you have running.

We are aware that the problem about the AGESettings program exist, but were not yet able to find out why it doesn't start on some computers.
So if you like to help us a bit, can you please send me some files, so that I can take a deeper look?

Firstly I would like to have the General.opt, which is located in the game directory ...\ACW\Settings\.

Secondly I would like to take a look to the DxDiag report file of your system.
How to get it:

1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Run
2. Type "DxDiag" (without the quotes) in the Run textbox and press OK
3. Wait for the progress bar on the lower left to complete
4. Finally, press the button labeled "Save All Information..."

This is the file I need.

As the last file I would like to have the report file the program HiJackThis produces. This program logs the processes running currently on your pc as well as the programs which are loaded when the PC is started. I attached HiJackThis to the post. Simply un-zip and run it (no installation required). (This program is a free tool provided by TrendSecure, a company which produces security software. http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/de...ls/hijackthis).
To get the report file:

1. Start the HiJackThis.exe.
2. Click on the button 'Do a system scan and save logfile'.
3. Save the file.
4. Quit HiJackThis. Do not do any changes with the Fix Checked-Button unless you know what you are doing! Please scan only.

Please send the 3 files to support@ageod.com
Thanks!

Cheers
Norbert

Sorry about this but my install seems to be working fine now.

No idea why it went strange for that bit of time, no new software, nothing in the logs. Ah well, as long as I get my fix I'm happy.

Now if someone could just make me better at the game :-)

Good to hear that things got sorted out :)
