Installation Problems

My dad and I have been trying to install the program for 2 days on 2 different PC's with 2 different DVD's from Fry's Electronics. We've uninstalled several times, rebooted systems and verified that we have Direct X 9.0c. One machine is Windows XP and the other is Windows Vista. Neither machine works with either of the DVD's. During the installation it appears to install properly up to the "Finishing Installation" screen and then hangs. When we tried just starting the program the program hangs. On occasion the program has started on the Windows Vista machine, but unreliably. We have also downloaded the patch 1.10d with no effect. PLEASE HELP !!!
On a separate note, is there a simple way to view the Regions on the map? Right now we only know to "hunt and find" them by hovering the mouse over each area on the map. Thank you.

Welcome to the forums; sorry you're having problems with the game.
Someone more knowledgeable than me will help you out with the installation issue you're having, but in the meantime, you might be able to find some useful advice in this thread:

As for the regions, when you see them mentioned e.g. in the log, you can in most cases double-click the name of the region to take you directly to them, i.e. the map centers on them. You can also find lists of the regions, sorted both by name and state at

As is often the case, the problem dispppeared as soon as I asked for help. I didn't do anything special (I think) except reinstall one more time with the intent of following your suggestions but the install completed, asked for the registration code and then launched the program???
As for names of Regions, I consider that a weak answer and poor implementaation.
I should admit that I am a newbie at games of this sort and more interested in studying the history of the battles than proving that I could have done it better.
Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry that you did not find it of better use.
In which situations do you find yourself looking for specific regions? As far as I know, in most cases where you encounter region names, it is possible to click them to be brought to the region in question, but this might not be what you are thinking of?

if you are seeking a 'region locater' then no, there is no such window in-game, but this is planned.
You can switch to the military control filter, I believe it shows all regions names.
