I can not read the pdf manual or the illustrated tutorial from the "START/AGEOD menu choices. I CAN read pdfs that I encounter on the internet. I uninstalled and re-installed ADOBE READER and still can not access any of the pdf documents from the START menu items.

I CAN read the pdf for the manual from the CD directly using ADOBE READER, however, the document I am interested in is the illustrated tutorial but that of course is not offfer.

AND the First tutorial inside the game entitled "BASIC Tutorial" has errors in it for example you see different screen images than stated in the instructive text....I am becoming more and more frustrated with this game and wish I had passed on it.

Hi Tommy!

I CAN read the pdf for the manual from the CD directly using ADOBE READER, however, the document I am interested in is the illustrated tutorial but that of course is not offfer.

You can download it from here:

AND the First tutorial inside the game entitled "BASIC Tutorial" has errors in it for example you see different screen images than stated in the instructive text....I am becoming more and more frustrated with this game and wish I had passed on it.

The tutorial is slightly outdated since the Christmas Patch in terms that it doesn't mention the Rules-of-Engagement-Buttons. There is also a small inconsistency in the description of the roster page of the ledger (If you sort the generals by rank, the first two entries will show the names of the armies instead the names of the commanding generals.) I will correct that as soon as possible, thanks for pointing me to that. :)
Aside from this the tutorial should work correctly.
Sorry for the inconvenience, I hope you will not give up. :cwboy:

Cheers
Norbert

It is slightly more than "sorting" generals by rank

The contradicion in the text with the screen view is that the text tells you to:
"click on any general and then on rank"...I clicked on Sherman's rank in Sherman's entry and the screen simply changed to put the generals on the roster for the tutorial game in order...I finally realized that the text MEANT to click on the RANK FILTER at the left which happily was the first one I tried going down the list and FINALLY up came the list which DID have Buell on it....I guess I am too literal. I followed the text instructions to the letter and therefore got what I thought was an error...I suppose it is my own fault. I am an experience computer person and long time gamer....I made a number of unforgiveable mistakes in buying this game beginning with not being sensible enough to ask about the installation requirements before buying it and then by relying upon a tutorial rather than just jumping in and hacking around with it.

Just for the record and to help others...I first installed this game on a P4 2.45ghz machine with 512mb of ram...IT TOOK 12 MINUTES TO LOAD ALL THE GRAPHICS and then it took fully ONE MINUTE minimum to move between menu choices after it was fully loaded...that is why I bought 2 gigs of ram...and though it is stated to only require 1 gig of ram, I am glad I bought 2gigs both because it has generally improved the performance of my machine AND because even with 2 gigs of ram, it still takes 3 minutes to load the game (that is what AGEOD told me it would take with 512 !!!). Anyone who has a new dual core machine and at least a gig will probably not experience any of this.

However because you all seem to think so highly of the game, and it is much too late to return it, and especially because in part I bought the ram just to play it as it was made to sound so superior...that I am bound and determined to learn how to play it...I would like to play it by email but from what I can see that is not as easy as PBEM with Uncommon Valor from Matrix AND you can't even see a replay unless you are the host....but again...I will take all of your words that it is a great game.

Thanks for your kind response.

Hi Tommy,
First, trust me, it's worth figuring this game out.....

I too am experienced wargamer (playing tabletop since 1960, PC games since 1975), and AACW took me quite a while to learn (actually I'm still learning!!!) I believe you will get better support here than anywhere else I've "been", and no, I'm not an employee or otherwise 'officially' attached to AGEOD. Just a fan... :siffle:

Rest assured we'll all help you. As a note, the manual has not kept up with the patches (which are also upgrades and are free!), so it can be confusing. That is recently been brought 'under management', and should rapidly improve....

Ask questions scan the forums, and be sure to check the AACW wiki, as it HAS kept up with the changes:

Good luck, and happy gaming..... :niark:
