Hi Guys,
I sent you the log and save files called "Oops" to your support address per the sticky...Hope it helps!
It's repeatable, hit end turn and Voila..."Critical Error" and CTD.

I am able to get more critical errors in the Gettysburg scenario and i think i may know what's causing it: I move Lee into Gettysburg, then transfer enough Arty and Supply to have him build a fort. End turn and CTD.
Edit: Nope...skipped the fort building but still CTD'd.

Loaded my saves pre-patch (1.0b) and still got the Critical Error with the new patch. I am getting regular CTD's with Gettsburg, i am beginning to think it may be my PC(family Alienware)...with Norton. I will start a fresh game with the patch and then go back to my regular Gaming PC with 512 mg card and 2GB Ram/McAfee and report back. I have had no problems with this PC and AACW.
UPDATED: runs fine with a fresh start, the saves have a red mark next to them and still CTD...no biggie. My regular "gaming rig" is still fine and i even managed a Victory @Gettsburg as Confederates :niark: .

:sourcil: Problem solved, i replayed the scenario many times from scratch without any problems on the PC in question(norton). The saves i had tried to load were already too late eg:CTD that turn, but the new patch has done away with the little problem of HQ/Fort. Great Job Pocus!

Give me some tips please. I uninstalled the game completely, reinstalled and added the latest patch. I always play now with Norton disabled and afterstarting the April 61 scenario and running to early August I have begun having the blue screen (program shut down to avoid error) crash. I start the game again and keep going. What does anyone reccomend that I try. Before I reinstalled, I was getting the critical error crash so bad my game was unplayable. Has anyone gotten through a year of game time with no problems?

You have to differenciate between a crash caused by the game, with a message telling you an error has occured (leading to a crash to desktop) and a blue screen. The first is indeed caused by a bug in the code, and I try to fix it as soon as possible. The latter is often an hardware problem, or a problem which is anyway external to the actual game code , and can only be solved by analyzing toroughly you configuration (but we are not Windows Admin nor hardware specialists). In such case, if no solution works, we are willing to refund you the game, as the error is generally beyond our scope.

Thanks for the response. No refund needed. I like the game so much I will just keep playing it as is and keep trying to work with my machine as best I can. I don't know but I must own 40 different war games and have never had a problem before. Never the less, I'll keep trying.

Seems like our DirectX library don't like some cards of ATI 9xxx serie, so this is why I'm proposing you a refund. As I told you by mail (but I'm saying it publicly here), we do plan to change this library but several months will pass before the work is done, so a refund is the only proposal we can do to people having blue screens crashes, if we play fair with customers. And we try to always be.

Still running full circle in my fish bowl... have you tried to reduce by several notches the hardware acceleration setting of your video card?

FYI: My Alienware desktop that i had problems with has an Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT 256mg card. Other than the place i got stuck at, pre-patch, i have been fine but i did have a day of constant ctd's...i suspect it may have been Norton related. My gaming rig with McAfee has not hiccuped once...ever.

Another Critical Error

Hey,

I've just sent you guys a critical error message with the log and save. It has happened several times, always as CSA in the largest scenario, but only after playing multiple turns--in other words, I usually reach 1862 by the time this happens. I hit "end turn" and the critical error message appears, stating that the "application will be terminated." What gives? If you need any info: I've got a Dell Dimension 8400 with 3 ghz processor, Windows XP, 1 gb RAM. Anyway, love the game, I'd just love to finish a campaign!

The CSA turn was 0 byte in size, meaning that the file was locked and unable to be written. I will add a fix for that, but the bug is not reproducible as it affects only some computers. (I send you back your turn, fixed btw).
