I'm not sure that was the exact wording of the error message I got, but that was the gist of it. I had saved my game under a new name by CTRL+save game, and when I tried to go to the next turn I got that message. I don't know what file the game tries to access, but when I looked at the save folder of the game, it and all of its subfolders are locked, don't know if that has anything to do with it?

I had the same problem , it was for me when AI tried to generate opposing side files.
It appears to be a very rare ( unknown) problem , as Pocus said to me. :bonk:
The only solution I find was to quit current game and reload ( I was able to save before).
It appears to me only when first time launching a campaign , not after.

Meanwhile , it doesn't prevent me to play , I hope it will be the same for you.

I think I will disable this whole 'save under' thing, as it is not needed and cause problems. It is not needed, because the game automatically save for you all your turns as backup (up to 24 to be precise), so no need to do alternate saves.
Also you can rename the files from the load menu.

Yes, do it because it seems the problem I encountered and then beowulf also is not so rare it appears to be.
I used to "save under" but effectively, the backup is sufficient.

File unlocking can be a rare thing in Windows that can suddenly become rather common; who knows why.

I encounter this mostly with files I have copied and then pasted somewhere - the copied file gets 'locked'.

It is also seen with deleting files - sometimes they are locked.

You generally don't see this with a relatively 'fresh' install of Windows.

However, I see it enough, especially doing PC Tech Support, I use a tool called 'unlocker'.

Get it here;

Notice its from a French programmer, so you KNOW it is excellent :)
