un-installing and re-installing?

Hi all,
I currently running what I believe to be the lates official patch(1.15) but would like to try (1.16 beta6); the beta thread recommends a complete uninstall/ reinstall;what's best, should I use the uninstall feature on the Ageod program drop down menu or use the add/remove programs from Windows control panel.
also should any left over folders be deleted.
In the past I've just overwritten with the newer patch. (I'm also considering a seperate folder outside of the 'programs' folder in which I can also reinstall WIA and RoP.) Thanks!
