Running different versions of AACW

Are there any known problems with running different versions of AACW on the same machine?
Reason I ask is that I have an ongoing PBEM on 1.10c, but have also installed 1.14 for a new PBEM. It's a new computer. I did a clean install, copied it to a different folder, and patched the first (the original install) to 1.14 and the copy to 1.10c. I played one turn fine on 1.10c, played another on 1.14, but now the 1.10c version crashes a few seconds into starting up, while the 1.14 still starts fine.
Are there any conflicts with running two parallel versions? Is it possible at all? Should I have done two clean installs? Any other safeguards against known conflicts?
Any helpful comments would be most appreciated.

This is the first game that I have ever had two copies of the same game on the same computer too- so I was a little nervous at first and reluctant to even try doing it for a long time. For 1.13b I left completed untouched. In a new totally different directory I installed the basic version then patched it to 1.14. I haven't had any troubles or crashes. I'm using basic windows XT. Maybe you have vista and the files are getting muddled. Also you have to be CAREFUL when extracting your files from your e-mail- be sure your have placed the save game file in the right directory. (Mine at least- remembers the directory of the last save game's location. SO if you are used to only one game you might have inadvertently placed your file in the wrong directory. ALSO when you are going to upload the file to your e-mail you have to again make sure you draw it from the proper directory as the Outlook Express remembers your last directory used).

Yes, I do have Vista. Is it positive that this is a particular problem?
I am aware of the pbem file location problem; however, even if I messed that up this couldn't be the cause of crash on start-up, I would think.

Since you are using Vista... Are you allowing the installation to include "/Program Files/" as part of the installation path for both installs?
No. I installed in a folder called C:/Games/.
Follow this up with the 2nd installation ....
So, the idea is to do two separate installations, rather than just copy one folder?
Thank you!

Yes I would recommend two completely different installations so that the pathways don't get mixed up. One with 1.10c and the other with 1.14. I don't think you should install once and then copy/rename your directories.

Alright, Gentlemen, thank you. I deleted everything, installed AACW in two different folders, patched first one to 1.10c, then the other to 1.14, as suggested by Gray, and so far at least 1.10c runs again. Whether 1.14 runs too, and whether once I have used it, 1.10c will still work, I'll report when I know.

The only thing you really need to do is to point to the AACW.exe file in each installation. Everything else should fall into place when whichever shortcut is chosen.
Of course!
