Map acting bizarre

When playing AACW and shifting to another part of the map, all of a sudden, the screen begins to flash on and off.
Some parts of the map go blank, and other parts flash on and off.
This is really strange, I have no explanation for it.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Have you changed the settings for Standard/Fullscreen screen mode in the AGESettings tool?

What brand and model of video card do you have?

Video Driver problem, are you up to date?

Thanks for the responses.
Video card is:
128MB PCI Express x16
ATI Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory.

I changed some of the settings in Options, to exclude oceans, and also changed to pre-cache the map visuals.
Didn't seem to help, tho.

Is that what you mean by AGESettings Tool?

ATI Catalyst drivers are located here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32

You want the "Catalyst Software Suite (32 bit) English Only" and the "hotfix". Install the software suite first. After installing and rebooting, let us know how AACW is working.

Do you play any other (graphic intense) games and experience problems with these too?
Do these problems occur instantly or after some time playing?
I had once similar problems with some games. They were caused by the graphic card overheating. After cleaning the heat sink and fan everything worked fine again. :)

Cheers

ohms_law, thanks for that.
Can you give me the link for the Windows XP version?
I'm not smart enuf to figure that out, thanks.

Prima, no, this only happens with AACW.
WiA is fine, no problems there, no problems with Age of Empires III, either.
The problems come up only after some time playing, not instantly.
About the heat sink and fan, I'm hesitant to invade my computer, but maybe I'll give that a try. :siffle:

Sure, here you go: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp

Based on what you've said above I'm not so sure that it'll fix the problem, but it certainly won't hurt.

Cleaning out the case certainly couldn't hurt, either. You'll see a lot of wires and stuff, don't worry about it just don't be disconnecting anything! ;)

Really, it kind of sounds like something specific with your AACW install might be corrupt. My advice is to clean out the case and download and install the driver update first. Test that, and if you still have problems just let us know.
