11d patch caused game to hang

I installed the 11d patch OK.
REstarted the game and it hangs showing the AGE 2.0 screen. AGESETTINGS.EXE running.

UNINSTALLED completely, or so I think.

Now unable to complete reinstallation. Install hangs in Finishing Installation, desktop ICON created and AGESETTINGS.EXE RUNNING. If I terminate AGESETTINGS then installation finishes but of course the game does not run.

Hanging with 1.11d patch

I had the same experience as the previous poster, but when I uninstalled and reinstalled with the 1.10 patch it installed normally and ran normally. But trying the 1.11d patch again resulted in the game hanging during the startup. I installed from a downloaded version of the game that includes the 1.10 patch that Pocus kindly gave me a couple of weeks ago.

I'm using Win XP/SP3, a Core duo processor, an NVDIA GeForce 7300SE video card.

[edit] I spoke too soon - the game loads to the opening screen but when I try to load my saved game I get the message "the application has generated numerous errors and is stalling, would you like to terminate?" or words to that effect.

It would be a pity to lose my saved game as I was just getting ready to crush the AI.

I started a new game and ran through a turn and it runs OK. Wonder if my old game was corrupted in some way?

BTW, I'm using the SVF mod, if that makes any difference.

If you switch to German, your configuration file is overwritten and you will be asked to enter your serial key. In case where Windows prevent the registration utility to run, you indeed see the progress bar stopped at 1/3 with AGE 2.0 in the bottom left corner.

In this case you can register the key manually by entering it in ACW\settings\general.opt

All in English

No, I didn't switch to German.

I got the 1.10 to run normally, and started a new game, but still haven't been able to patch up to 1.11.

Thanks, Gray. I d/l'ed a clean copy of the 1.11d patch, installed it, deleted the modpath.ini, and the game started right up, no problem.

I have the same problem, and I haven't installed any mods. I had some trouble with my computer, so I had to reinstall the game. When I installed from the CD, I checked to see if the game would run, and it did [altho I did get an error message when I exited, saying that Windows was missing a necessary file]. Then I ran the 1.11d patch, and when I tried to run the game I experienced the hang with the progress bar approximately one-third of the way across the bottom of the screen.

I'm running Vista Home Premium [64 bit], AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+, 4GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD 3870 graphics card.

Gray Lensman,

Thanks. I actually had the game installed on another internal drive, but still in a "Program Files x86" subdirectory. Installing it straight to the drive seems to have solved the problem.

I am still worried about one thing. After installing from the CD [before running the patch], I again tested the game to see if it would run, and it did. However, as before, when I exited the game I again received the error message regarding a missing Windows component. This time, I clicked on the "Details" button, and found out that it was referring to "D3DRM.DLL," which is not included in Vista. I checked here, and the pertinent thread says to download the dll and put it in the main ACW folder. But, I hate to mess with things now that it's working. Will I avoid future problems if I get the dll, or should I leave well enough alone?

Great support from Gray_Lensman, thanks!

The missing DLL can be found there:
