Game ran fine for days, then one turn I got a critical error. Said to copy log file, saved game to Ageod (I did, just hoping someone here may have easier answer). I launch the game again, the main screen loads, but when i click on "load game" I get the same critical error. Here is the end of the log file:

No idea what could be the reason of the CTD
But i see on the log that you are playing version 1.08a. That patch is from 10 months ago.
The latest patch for AACW is 1.11a. You can download it from here
http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/latest/AACW_Patch.zip

I suggest you download and install the new one. It's highly probable that it will solves the problem.
To be sure your installation is 100% OK its recommended to fully unisntall, delete AACW folder completely and then do a fresh reinstall and patch to the latest version.
Regards

EDIT :D I was typing while you posted the second time. :bonk:
Did you do a full reinstall and fresh install to be sure?

The file seems to have a read error. If you can isolate what is the saved game doing that, send it to support@ageod.com for inspection.

Fast response Pocus thanks!

I did a full reinstall, but left the saved games and the same issue occurred. I cleared out the whole saved game folder and started a new game, saved, and was able to operate 100% normal.

Apparently a saved game file got corrupt or something where I couldnt even get to the saved game screen. I'm ok with the resolution now, too bad I lost my old saved game

EDIT: Oh and i did email it in before posting, if you still care

EDIT: A memory leak issue? Perhaps a problem bigger than this game and a lovely side effect of Vista?

There is indeed a problem in Memory Usage. Please send your DxDiag to support@ageod.com with this thread as reference.

got it, I'll answer here. You are the third with a 8800 serie on Vista with memory usage error. It seems the driver and the game are not getting along well (I won't say the culprit is necessarily the driver...).

My recommendation would be to reduce memory usage, because your video card has an enormous amount of memory, but fulfilling it seems to cause crashes (the game is putting all textures without flushing them, as the card has this vast amount).

Please reduce the max texture size and memory usage in the Options Window, System, to the leftmost check each. If the game seems stable, then crank the settings one notch.

Pocus,

Is there a way to stop this permanently? I think it causes me to crash another game too.

I do NOT have the latest Nvidia driver set released in June, because there are documented issues with that as well (shader issues). I suppose I may need to update and see if the memory leak stops?

what do you mean by 'stop this permanently'? If you bought from AGEOD we can offer you a refund, if this is what you mean.

Aside from lowering the memory usage in-game, or updating your driver I don't see much solutions; Have you tried the non official Omega drivers for Vista?

His wife has an epileptic attack and last update to nvidia drivers was 12/07. Thanks for your help either way

Hi guys,

having the same issue with the same 8800 series card but on windows XP (so you're now officially up to 4 of us ;) ). I've tried using the latest non-omega drivers for the card so that isn't a fix I'm afraid. (edit: the last Nvidia drivers cause problems all of their own...)

Personally, I have no hesitation in blaming the drivers, but I will persevere and see if I can get the game running without crashing every few turns a little longer.

All the best,

Zeb

One reason and solution? for Critical error

I had the same kind of critical error as ctwino was getting. Critical error while trying to load the save game menu. The game crashed during turn resolution period. When restarting the game, that critical error kept popping up when trying to get back to the old game. My log showed exactly the same 2 last lines giving the error as in CT's original post..... (copied from CT's post as an example)

7:30:47 PM [Critical ] TGameSim.IsValidGameFile Exception caught: Lecture au-delà de la fin de fichier
7:30:47 PM [Critical ] TGameSim.IsAiFile Exception caught: Lecture au-delà de la fin de fichier

Deleting all old saved games, except the one I was in middle of (after seeing a suggestion on here) didn't stop the error. Deleting the saved game i was in the middle of did. So I did what I should have done first. A quick restore of the saved game file and then I Checked the files in the saved game that had crashed. Two of the files, the .HST and the USA .TRN file were reading as 0K in size. A quick copy of the back up files from BACKUP 1 folder, gave me the turn I was playing before the crash. I replaced ALL the files with ones from the backup even though the CSA .TRN and the .ORD file were both >0K. So far the saved game appears to be working again.

Not sure if this is the only thing that causes CE's in 1.09 as I have had them before and started up again no problem, this was the first time it behaved like this on the load menu.

Hope this helps

Thanks, had the same problem and that sure seems to have helped me (at least I can load the game :) ).
