New bug with 1.03...

Here is what happens...I click next turn and the moves and AI are then calculated. The battle report window pops up, but it is empty...after the AI is done processing, when I click the check mark to close the empty battle report window, I get a fatal crash message and the program is terminated...I can restart the game and load the last turn which has been autosaved...
I did not experience this until I applied 1.03

Did you have that with a new game or by using an old savegame ?

I'm interested by the savegame.
The answer to the question of PhilThib interest me too

Yes, if you used an earlier save (before addition of battle report option/1.03), and are now choosing to have a battle report "stay" after each battle, you would have a problem. I read somewhere on this forum that you need to start a new game when enabling the battle report option.

yes...its with an old saved game...I applied 1.03 because I was advised it would not create problems with saved games...I will try what hell patrol suggests and change the report function...I'll report back if that solves the problem...

Sorry guys, this is unexpected, as the save format has not changed.
Its me that posted (well others may have posted on the same subject too) that you should not enable the battle report option with current games.

I had that issue the first time I used 1.03 with an older save, but once I went back in and reloaded, then toggled the switch for the reports off and back on and saved it, it's worked fine since. I've been running my AAR with it on, and haven't had any more problems with it.

Yes, checking the pause battle report after each battle option stopped the problem...simple fix and no harm done...

Let this be a lesson for all of us to live by.
When new patches are installed, do not count on your old games to remain stable.
I think that this argues in favor of making patches a rare rather than a frequent event. I know that Philippe and the rest of the good AGEOD people are working as hard as they can to provide excellent support for us gameplaying idiots, but there is a danger in patching too frequently. I suggest some restraint and patching only when a significant number of changes has accumulated (of course, if a major "bug" or fault has to be repaired, immediate action has to be taken).
I am sensitive to this because of a huge problem that beset me with another publisher's "monster" game (the publisher shall remain nameless, as I have sworn not to say bad things about them ever again, but their initials are "Matrix Games"). You bought the game. You installed it. You started playing it. BAM! A patch came out. You had to restart. You tried to play some more. BAM! Another patch came out. You had to restart. Believe me, after a few episodes of that, I had had enough. Ecrasez l'infame!

I can only agree with you Pasternakski, its a very frustrating experience for players to have to restart a game after each patch.
For BoA, you are not supposed to do that. I just tried to get this empty battle report bug with a 1.00 save played with BoA 1.03b, and no problems.
So ... dont delete your old games, they ought to run on BoA, any version. If you have a problem, forward me the save, as its my duty to fix these bugs, so you can continue playing.

I agree.
Especially with Witp ( from Matrix ) , it's very frustrating to have to restart a so long game just to take profit of all the goodies ot the last patch.
But usually the patch is supposed to improve the game so it's good to restart , isn't it ?
That's why I usually wait some patches before really playing the game until the end ( a campaign game for example )

leure: . Same with Civ IV moreover...

Nobody is forcing someone to download a patch and install it. Just keep playing to the completion of your current game then download.
In the meantime those of us who don't mind restarting, or who haven't started a new game can take advantage of more frequent patches.
So IOW keep those patches coming!

my fault, I did not expect that some 1.02 games would have the problem with battle report ON in hosting, if played under 1.03/1.03b... as the file format has not changed.
I still seek to solve this bug by the way, if somebody has it, please go to the corresponding armory thread.

Aye, good point.
