At Fort Pulaski he created new artillery tactics to breach masonry forts. He commanded the siege of Batteries Wagner and Gregg and reduced Fort Sumter to rubble although he never captured it. Commanded the X corps from Charleston to Bermuda Hundred and Early's Washington raid. His failure at Bermuda hundred was mostly the fault of Butler but Gillmore didn't have a reputation as a particularly fast or aggressive commander. He needs a corps commander version.

Did you spell his name with two L's in your search? I made that mistake at first. I also have several books in addition to online sources. The Historical Times Encyclopedia of the Civil war has short biographies of most generals. It's usually my first choice. If I want more details I search through Shelby Foote's narrative.
