one of my favorites.... died of typhoid in 1863, and one of the best union cav officers

a what if..... if he didn't die in '63.... would he have gone on to higher rank... and if so, do we create that possibility? buford should have lead the cav corps at chancellorsville, and was promoted to maj. gen on his deathbed.... i think we're within the realm of possiblity to add a buford2...

as a cav officer, should have skirmisher, esp at the lower ranks.

Agree, make a proposition

Note:
I think the Cav enjoys an evasion Bonus. Pocus should be able to tell.

Not sure how many changes we can make given the unknowns... i lowered the attack rating for buford2 to 4, only because of the unknowns... but it could just as easily be a 5

You could argue that what he did on the first day at Gettysburg was successfully skirmish with Heth. Of course, I'm generally in favor of making the cavalry generals skirmishers or raiders.

CAV units already have bonus. Cavalryman is another bonus. Pocus thinks we should keep Skimisher for the real Cav genius...

I would not object for Buffort and Sheridan as far as the Union is concerned.

Now, I would only give him a 2 in defense (Able commander) as I don't know any defensive action in which he showed superior talent (Joe General is 3-1-1).

Cavalry have inherently the ability to bypass opposition at the regional level, move fast, patrol well the region they are in (prevent the opposition to bypass you). You don't have to add anything if the leader is a fair but not exceptional cavalry leader, except a good strategic rating to show he is able to move when needed. Don't go overboard by adding tons of abilities on every leader.

Cavalryman is a bonus to combat, for cavalry, in open terrain. basically someone who can use cavalry as a shock force, Napoleonic style.

Skirmisher/adept_raider is a leader who can have the units fight, and retreat as soon as things are not going well. This is very potent. Adept_raider is far more powerful than Skirmisher in this respect.

agreed....

how about a 4-3-3 skirm for buf and 4-3-2 skirm for buf2.
