Prisoner Exchanges

In my latest game I have captured 32400 Fed prisoners. I am curious what is the formula for prisoner exhanges? Is it one for one or just total exchange regardless of numbers. What happens once the exhange is made?
Oh and is there an Andersville event by any chance - I dont recall seing one in any of the full campaigns I played.
I will wait for I click option in my latest game as I am not sure I want to give Feds back almost 33,000 more troops for nothing?

Never used the Prisoner Exchange option myself but as I understand it, which it probably incorrect, you get a small VP or NM bonus for releasing prisoners. I also believe that about a third go back to the colours so to speak for the receiving side.

Both side exchange 1/3 of the prisoners they have.

But what happened then?
I play against a human player. We both used the button prisoner exchange, but in the next turn...Nothing happened.
Unfortunately it seems that it will cost 50VP and 1 NM to do that...

If you chose the option, something should happen. Unless your opponent pretended he did, but did not, this can be a tactic.
choosing the option give you VP and NM, as the population is happy to have soldiers return home.

You get all prisoners as conscripts in fact. This is not very historical by the way, I wonder if I did not forget a coefficient somewhere, like 1/3 of them returning to fight the opponent.

Is that conscript points or do they appear instantaneously in reiforcements next round?

Then I have to check this again with my opponent. I´m playing against a friend and we want to check if it is possible to get some conscripts back.
The last time nothing happened, or didn´t we get a message after exchange our prisoners?

You should get a message yes. Try playing against yourself by activating the options on both sides, it worked last time I tried.

Do the prisoners consume any supplies ? If not it would be cool to have this coded as having prisoners should not be free. You need prisoner camps, guards and .. they need to eat too.

Indeed! Maybe by building POW camps that consume general supplies. This may be an incentive to exchange prisoners in certain cases. Could be a cool target for large scale raid too.

It seems that after clicking the option to exhange prisoners that I still have the same numbers of Yankee prisoners - Did something go wrong? Actually I have more yankee Prisoners as I won 2 small battles in the same round that I clicked the option. 37,000 NOW.

Your other opponent have to agree for the exchange. If you don't see a message, he did not agree.

So Athena has option to accept or not? Bitchy?

Yes, she can ask for exchange ... or not, depending of her interest to do so and the shape of the national morale.

There is a display bug (play english version). One zero to many, so you get the message 177.000 come free, but it is only 17.700, which means 177 conscripts.
CSA get always +1NM and +50 VP, Union is every time different, mostly +2NM and VP is different.

Yup, I just saw that too. Also, both sides
must sign the agreement on the same turn. Otherwise it will not take affect.

I'm not sure about that. I'd have to test it out with so many different variables, current NM of each side, number of POW's released on each side; with just 2 variables you would have to run a presetup turn dozens of times, changing the variables each time to know, and I'm not about to do that
