If I land on an enemy coast, where do supplies come from? Over the sea? Or do I have to conquer a supply-producing city before I can be supplied? Does building a depot make a difference? Thanks!

Assuming that you have a supply wagon with your force and enough sea transport, the supplies will come over the sea to it. Building a depot will, of course, increase the supplies received.

And thanks again!

I imagine that having a harbour available might be significant in receiving ocean-transported supplies?

It would seem to make sense, yes. Obliged, gentlemen.

Bear in mind the amount of supply received via ocean supply varies with the number of transports you have in the Shipping box. The more transports, the more supply to various coastal locations requiring supply.

I think transports in an adjacent sea area also increase supply?

They do, but you gotta send them back to a port to fill again, once the supplies are consumed, as far as i know. I think supplies are not pushed to transport ships in the supply phase.

Thanks Evren. I have tried this several times but I have never seen a transport ship lose supply while doing this. It could be that the troops where supplied enough. Worth checking out maybe.

I had to use them extensively when i was playing against an old grognard (it is kind of humiliating not being able to alter someone who is at the age of your father

), especially in the northern Tennessee area, when the riverine supply flow was not enough itself. The units adjacent to the sea or river area that the transports are located can use the supplies in the ships, and it is useful when there's a supply shortage. One other thing is, it makes the naval part of the game more crucial.

I'm probably at the age of your father as well. Did you see the transports lose supply?
Cheers, Chris

PS: I love being able to interact with a totally different generation

, i didn't mean to offend anyone. There's so much to learn.

OK good, I was worried that there may be a bug with transport supply.
I certainly didn't take any offence

Maybe at 44 I'm not old enough to be your dad?
Cheers, Chris
Parethood?

Regarding invasions...it's always best, IMHO to capture a city with a supply depot and rail connection so you can quickly move inland.
If you don't, you're range of operations is restricted somewhat because (unless the city is level 3+) supplies don't push forward unless there's a depot....and there aren't many CSA cities that are 3+. So it's either bring tons of supply wagons, capture a large city, or capture a city with RR access and a depot or capture one with RR access and BUILD a depot.

So, there IS one good reason for the CSA to attack the Shipping Box transports if at all possible...
