New units and the need for replacements

I am playing my first campaign and am wondering about the various ways in which new units come into being. Maybe someone would be so kind to let me know if my understanding is basically correct with respect to units that arrive incomplete (with partially or totally red component elements).

1. If I have raised the unit myself (via the reinforcement screen) the unit will flesh out automatically over time, without using up replacements. Afterall, I have already "paid" the full prize, e.g. 7 conscript companies for a militia regiment.

2. If I get the unit via an event, it will flesh out using replacements, as I have "paid" nothing for it in terms of manpower.

True?

Thanks! :)

Yes to both! :cwboy:
To ones you buy will have a red stripe over his name. They are in the process of formation.
The others (the event ones) are already formed but badly understrength and use up replacements to fill his missing men.

My problem with those understrength units that arrived by event is that there seems to be now way to find out how many elements are missing to full strength (the same problem appears for me if a unit is loosing an element during combat).
Have i overlooked that information somewhere or is it just not available?

Hi
This info is there but "a little" hidden :siffle:
To know the elements a brigade will have at full strength, select the brigade and some other brigade unit on the stack and then pass the mouse over the merge button.
The button will be grayed out, as normally you cannot merge two brigades. But the tooltip over the grayed out button will tell you the max elements each brigade can have.
Other info that could help you have a rough idea about the potential of a brigade is the strength tooltip you get passing the mouse over the stack on the map.
If you see "longstreet brigade 35/167" you know the units will have a lot of elements at full strength to reach that 167 pwr points.
Regards!
