Simple question about divs

If you want to take a unit out of a division, do you always have to: unload the division, drag and drop the unit in question out of the stack, then reload all the remaining units back into the div? Or, is there an easier way to do this?

Reason I ask, if there is a cav unit in a div and I want to extract them to chase down some pesky raiders, there doesn't seem to be (other than mentioned above) an easy way to get the cav unit out of a div without doing the 'div shuffle'.

Or, on a side note, should I use my cav units as independent units only? Any cav units in a div should only be elements inside existing units?

Heck, I'm on my first full game and stumbling in the dark a bit... :innocent:

That's the only way I've found to do it. :grr:

I rarely put Cav inside a Division. Usually one of the brigades has an inherent Cav, so the division gainsthe sighting benefit that way. Cav are too useful to bury in Divisions. [of course, that's just MY way of doing it!] :niark:

Also teaming your cavalry unit with a horse artillery unit is an efficient way to increase the power as opposed to teaming two cavalry units. Also, the arty unit requires fewer conscripts to build than a cav unit.

does it make sense to create a cav div with, say, sheridan leading?

Yes, if you use as independent or roaming force. Very mobile - can be useful for attack and defense (Although not the best at sieges, obviously)

thanks for the quick responses all! Great game and a lot of fun. In my current game, I've pushed Johnny Reb out of VA, MO, KY most of TN and NC. I have 165 morale pts and looking to win prior to the winter of '63. Although, winter may push that back until spring of '64. I'm going to drive into Atlanta from the north, push into MS from western TN to to make the long march to take New Orleans and let my cav run wild behind enemy lines disrupting rail, depots, etc. Or maybe I'll amphib assault to take NOLA... ? :niark:

Next game maybe I'll do an AAR! :sourcil:

Page 31 of the instruction manual shows- "Detach from Division: The selected unit will leave its Division".

I've tried to find/use that option without success. Does it exist or are the rules incorrect?

 Good find!
I would bet this didn't get included on the final version of the game.
I fact, as the game is now, i don“t know any way you can select one unit inside a division without disbandig it.
The component brigades display you see when you pass the mouse over the division is not selectable, isn't it? :bonk:
Cheers!

Oh they are definitely not selectable when moused over, but I do wish they where. I get tired of breaking the division down just to reform it after I remove, what most of the time for me is only one element.

Yes, sure it would be a great interface improvement.
But if it was not implemented since the beginning i fear its because it was not possible... or was very difficult. :p leure:
Maybe Pocus could tell us...
