Random Generals and Game Balance

Will randomizing general stats affect game balance? I'm not sure if there is true randomization for general stats, or if some generals are merely "switched" (i.e. Lee gets Longstreet's stats).

I know that the confederates rely to a large extent on their superior leadership, and I'm worried that true-randomization would make it much harder for the rebs to do well.

It helps the Union, because lots of bad to average Union generals tend to get better stats with randomization.

a human opponent will roll over the csa player with randomized stats.

No, I disagree.

If, a big if, the randomization does not have a CSA slant, then the CSA will lose some advantage dependent on the level of randomization chosen. Although the CSA already has many, many advantages in other areas which will prevent the Union player from simply rolling over the CSA.

I have always played slight randomization in my PBEMs. The only real impact I have seen is to make minor generals much more interesting vs the very bland 3-1-1 generic general.

I recommend trying it.

You say the CSA can construct an ironclad line of defense as in WW1, while others say the Union rolls over the Confederacy in every game. I wish you guys would talk it over and decide which side has all the advantages....

I can definitely state that when the CSA loses, the Union has way too many advantages. :niark:
