Sidenote, You are not in 96 DPI? Because the fonts are not supposed to be displayed like that, overlaping everywhere.

Ah, no wonder. I'm at 120. The only time it really affects readability was the tutorial. In the objectives screen lines run out of the page but they are readable.

I have had a handfull of 0-0 causality stalemates but always with a few units of cavalry facing each other with mine set to evade.

Yeah, bloodless encounters are somewhat plausible - units spot each other at distance and neither wants to attack (or infantry tries to chase down cavalry or whatever).
I was more concerned by a battle in which I lost 0 and the Union took about 2000 - you'd think one of my men would have tripped over a dead body or something.

Can honestly say the only time I have ever had casualties on one side and none on the other was when I (or they) only lost a couple hundred or less. The vast majority of my battles, except attacking entrenched forces, have been close in terms of casualties. I have learned my lesson about attacking entrenched forces but overall I think this engine handles battles amazingly.

Im curious, do you know what was the equipment that the Union captured?
I did not think it was possible to lose a battle and still manage to capture some equipment, nice touch!

The CSA won, not the Union, and it indicates they are the only ones who captured equipment.
One of my smaller Corps did get entirely wiped out, however.

Hattrick is right
If you look at the icons, there is a white flag on both sides (CSA one is half obscured)
My bet is USA recaptured the 2 previously captured supply wagon elements that were not destroyed in battle Probably the wagon unit was in your small corps that was slaughtered.
By the way, nice screen shot!

Only 500 casualties less for the winning side!
