Playing past the win

I really like the idea that the campaigns allow you to keep going even after you scored a victory. Does anybody else keep going?

I'm currently playing (against the AI) as CSA and it's late 1863. I control St Louis - Chicago - Cincinnati in the West and all of New York and most of Pennsylvania in the East. My huge CSA fleet is taking on Farragut on equal footing and I'm preparing to attack Boston - the last Yankee port on the eastern seaboard.

I've done the same rampage with the Union Army as well. Loads of fun.

I just finished my first game as the Union and I'm playing past the victory in order to figure out game mechanics - like where forts can be built (only cities?) and what good are they (don't know), trying new raider prevention and mitigation techniques, improving blockade force structure and rotation schedules, improve amphibious assault technique, improve raiding (don't want the guys to eat their horses), and etc.

Like sandbox mode.

Now that I've downloaded Patch 1.07e, I can't wait to start a new game.

Does the AI decide to become "unmotivated" after the win state or do they continue to play as before?

I know with the unlimited time mods for HOI II that after the main game would have ended it just doesn't really do anything.

The AI is on the offensive in my Union victory game - trying to retake Montgomery and Corinth and Knoxville, plus raiding... They don't know they're whupped; I hope I still win ;)

I was under the (mistaken) impression that events would stop firing - but I just got notified about Andersonville Prison.

Playing as the Union, I often play passed the win. Winning based on the Union NM level just does not seem right. I play on until the CSA hits their lower NM limit. The AI and events still work fine.

I have finished my first 1861 campain scenario as the Union, and I won near the end of 1862. I was playing on normal difficulty. Am I good or is it that normal level is too easy? I have 1.07e installed.

Prior to 1.07e, winning as the Union in late 1862 or early 1863 was probably average. I exclude 1.07e, as in my current game, it is too soon to tell, as I am still playing. One thing that I have noticed is that the improved CSA AI is much tougher. Frequent counterattacks with close run outcomes has made my advance on Richmond much more difficult than before.

In my 1.07e game, I received the victory event in early Dec 1862 upon the capture of Richmond and Memphis. However, those Southern boys show no sign of giving up and I will probably have to invade the heart land.
